old*cowboy :

I have been going to a few poultry auctions here of late and have got to thinking how chicken deprived us here in NW Okla are. It is a long drive to any of the auctions down south or east. When I lived in the panhandle used to go to Dodge City to some and Syricuse KS had an awesome on once a month for years. I may be wrong but I think that the guys in Dodge may have been the ones at Syricuse. Anyway they aint squat in the NW quarter of the state that I can find. I have been talking with some guys and gals and might be thinking about trying to get one started in this area. I dont figure it will be cutting into anyone elses sales because it is so far from this area, not all that many people go that way. 3 to 8 hour drive to poultry auction is hard on folks and sure hard on birds this time of year. Like I said, we are just in the talking and discussing phase now to see if it justifys looking more into. By posting this I am trying to see if there are many folks in this area on BYC. Also anyone with any thoughts or suggestions give us a holler. If we get it going, for now will probable try for a spring and fall sale, or at most once a month.

I'm not out there, but I think it's a fantastic idea. There are a few BYC'ers in that part of the state and I'm sure a bunch of other folks who would be interested in having a poultry auction closer to them.

Michael I have a couple places kind of running through my mind. Will start checking on them. As it gets closer to the 7th of Aug I will get more details about the KS thing and may go up there also. CityClucks, I agree I think there would be several folks out in this country that would be interested if It wasnt done to death. The one in Sryacuse was on Sunday afternoons once a month and always drew a huge crowd and row after row of sale cages. Michael I think the Dodge one starts at 5 as you say on Mondays. We used to go pretty regular when I lived in the Panhandle.

Good evening all. Had to come in from outside before the mosquitoes carried me off. I already look like I have some sort of horrible skin disease from scratching. I'd sure like to know where they're finding water to breed in because there isn't any around here.

My refrigerator must have a goblin in it trying to get out. It's been making a thumping noise all day in regular intervals - every 5 to 6 minutes. Hope it's not getting ready to go out. The ice maker in it quit working a few months ago but I can live with the old fashioned way of manually filling ice trays and setting them in the freezer. Who remembers the old metal ice trays with a handle that you'd pull to get the ice out?

All the girls fared alright today. So far no casualties - knock on wood.

I remember having to run water over them to be able to get the handle up LOL I had casualties today I went back out late and had 4 hens and the big roo I got from MD they were all laying together in the floor of the coop, all in my Buff Orpington pen the other pens were fine, I'm thinking they got too hot yesterday and couldn't handle it today but then they've been too hot every day in this weather.
