When should I call shout down on a hatch? I have 5 that haven't pipped. yesterday was hatch day (21).

I usually give until day 23, some people give until day 25. But I find anything that hatches past day 23 usually doesn't make it anyway. I used to candle for movement and give them a little more time but they either don't hatch or hatch and die- too weak from taking too long to hatch.

I agree. The ones that hatch late seem to have issues unless they were set a little later.

I may have had a hatching disaster. Went down to check on things and Reba was off the nest, which wasn't a great big deal, until I reached in an touched the eggs and they were ice cold, she had been off the nest for a while. She was on this morning, so not sure how long it had been, but several hours for sure. They were due to hatch tomorrow. They are in the bator now. We'll see how it goes. I'll candle later after they have a chance to warm. I'll give them a few extra days just in case.

So do you put four tires on an SUV and then ask if they want fifty pounds of corn chops with that?

I think they might, but in this case I think the cold threw her out of broody.

You all are very sweet! My clumsy body will survive. He put me in a brace. We'll know the results of the MRI in a few days. I won't be waiting around to hear...plane leaves at 6:45 in the morning! Yes, I will wear the brace and use the crutches.

Probably so. I've never had a hen to go broody this late in the year.
