***OKIES in the BYC III ***

hi guys! a question- does any one know where i can get some either goose eggs for hatching or baby geese around here?

i really don't want to order them online at this point. I have one goose and she has a bunch of ducks to keep her company but i sure would like to have a few more. they are pretty awesome animals.

That was a great story. They know when we are trying to help them, even when they're scared. Who said love can't cure? I have a goose laying eggs! I don't know which one. I got 4 new girls a while back but unfortunate;y, they haven't picked a mate yet, so I don't know if they're fertile. I have one the puppies brought me, so I'll crack it open and see.The rest I have put in the fridge, because I didn't want goslings right now. I have 4 muscovy ducks setting. Arrrrggggg. By the way. I wing it most of the time. I think we all do in a way.
There's nothing that teaches us as much, as experience.

for some reason i just feel like she is a girl. i got her from atwoods as a baby in march. but it would be so much fun to try to hatch some of my own. so if you ever have some goose eggs that you would want to sell plz hit me up. id also like to get some miscopy ducks. i don't have any of those. so just let me know if you can :D

That story made me cry. My geese are as special to me as my chickens and I've had more things happen w/ them to treat than the chickens. How is yours' doing? Ducks and geese get niacin deficiency really easy, if not getting enough greens or not getting it in their diet when they aren't getting enough greens. It causes them to become lame or even stagger. It looks like they've been injured. (And I'm sure sometimes it is injury). Anyway, if they aren't eating make sure you tube them. Brewers Yeast contains all the Niacin they need. I feed it to all my critters(chickens too). I get a 50 lb. bag at the feed store. The tablets will work too, or Niacin vitamins. Kale, Romaine lettuce is good if they are eating. Fill the tub or something(we used the horse trough) deep enough that they have to swim. It will help, if they are able. I've had one that couldn't. Swimming, vitamins and TLC is what saved Sammy. You probably remember when she hurt her back, when Glenn tossed her over tne fence thinking she fly down. We came so close to euthanizing her, but Glenn was more stubborn than I usually am and insisted she'd get better. He tube fed her until she could eat and swam her everyday. Poor Alex is her mate(he had lost Little Britches) and I don't know if he could take it if something happwened to her. He never left her side and had to come in w/ her when we were tube feeding her, until she could eat on her own. Let me know how your duck is doing? I have 4 babies in the brooder that I had w/ a hen and her chicks, but they grow faster. I'll download the picture and see if it turned out. Whoops

It's the way I am

my ducks and goose might be needing some supplements. even though they have 3 acres to graze they just sit in the pond and barely ever leave and only to sneak into the chicken barn to steal their grain and scratch. i see the goose nibbling on the grass sometimes but i think that they are too spookish of everything. we have a predator problem so i have my dogs out watching at night but during the day they are free to go where ever they want but they are too scared :( so might have to give brewers yeast a try.

try getting some gamebird feed in a bucket just for them, that may help this time of year lots of the protein they get is gone

ok so this is where i am confused. i am trying to wrap my head around this feeding deal. i thought that ducks shouldn't have much protein and that they focus more on grass. i have a duck with an angel wing that i was told was caused by too much protein. or are there different proteins? or am i not understanding the whole thing?

I have some "unique" grow out rabbits. Rudy and Bella live w/ them, it is working out so nicely, I think this will be how I house all my naked chickens in the future. Now when I would dump a bucket of greens into the pen when the rabbits thought they were rabbits they would circle the pile and eat their way into the greens, like normal well adjusted rabbits, right. Well what do they do now w/ Rudy and Bella's influence????? Pile into the center and paw and scatter then eat!!!!
