***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Goliath: He is still getting used to his redneck neck brace (red solo cup and duct tape). However he now stands on his own and walked a teenie bit, he also pecked at a piece of bread and sleeps with it not all wierdly tucked under now. I still have no idea what it is but as long as he is willing to fight this fight i am too, just need to order some chicken diapers.... he may be a house rooster.

Love this! I'm so glad he's fighting through. And I've used those same words...as long as they fight, I'll be there to help, so I sure understand.

Nanakat, I totally agree... two people, four arms, four birds. Or one person carrying one tub of four birds. Enough to breed, burn the rest, along with the evidence of theft.

Update on Little Joe...the little booger is eating me out of house and home. we have started a new bag of Suckle calf milk replacer. He gets two 1/2 gallon bottles in the morning, another 3/4 gallon at noon, another 3/4 gallon at 5:30 and a final gallon at 10:30. He nuzzles everywhere looking for the bottle. He is tasting grass and creep feed now so his gut is being inoculated for fermentation and cud chewing. Little Joe has a halter now and is learning to follow with a lead rope. He gets to go out to an enclosure on sunny days and bucks and runs and then flops down to enjoy the sun.
What?; no scours? He must be some calf. I never had an orphan calf that would drink that much. Even when I milked a cow, the calf took one side while I milked the other. We did this twice a day, and the calves were always healthy.
Yes, it is like he is making up for the milk he missed the first two weeks of life. He was in really bad shape when we got him. Now you don't easily feel the notches between the back bones and his hips are rounded. Today he decided to only take three meals. And ate more creep feed.

My money is on them being somewhere in the state, still. If not the competition, could be somebody looking for a buyer, if they didn't already have one.

Seen on forum ISO: Will pay top dollar for breeding pair of Cemani. Overheard in grocery store: I'm so excited! I should be able to start selling the Cemani chicks soon. Two roosters and two hens later, somebody's banking close to $2K.

And in my opinion, anybody capable of killing animals for fun is capable of violence of all kinds, including a little arson. Gamebreeding for cockfighting is big money in Oklahoma, and there are some truly vile people running in those circles.

I believe for the most part that those who breed animals of any kind for fighting are far, far different from people who raise livestock for food or as pets. Of course there are good and bad people in any big group, and those who use animals in fighting/killing "sports" can be among the most violent. I do know one gentleman who used to raise gamebirds for fighting, and he's actually one of the most intelligent, gentle people I know.

I made suet for my chickens today. I'm so excited to see how they like it

Mine lovelovelove suetcakes! I just went and picked up more suet from the butcher here in Skiatook, $1.17/lb, and I'll probably render it down next weekend. I might hang a chunk out for them tomorrow.

Anyone ever use an incubator like this?
I love my Brinseas, but I don't want to spend that much again.

My styrofoam one works, but only because I finally figured out its issues.

I'm guessing I'd have to figure this one out too.
