***OKIES in the BYC III ***

old*cowboy :

I have a question that I must ask of all you on hear. It has me concerned. I have read several posts today and my question is. What is this thing you call rain?

its the liquid form of sunshine that sometimes falls from the sky and leaves a wet feeling to clothing and skin.

Nice Rat Snake Coral, that one will eat eggs and chickies for sure, I've caught 2 this year, I'm wondering if the little rain we got this evening will bring some out to my pens I hope they go elsewhere LOL Someone suggested that I probably have a rodent problem here with having caught so many snakes that they were following the food supply I really haven't had that many rodents I do have rabbits though this place has had cottentails all over it since I moved here I figure thats why the hawks and owls haven't bothered my birds any, but I'm thinking the food supply the snakes are following are two legged feathered things that were intended to be my food supply LOL

Since we've had no rain for so long, I've already used one almost full 275 gallon rain barrel to water my fruit trees, and I have one more that has about 250 gallons in it. In the last couple of weeks Jack has helped me route PVC pipe from my upstairs AC unit outside the house and down into another 40 gallon rain barrel I got at Atwoods. The way that unit has been running to keep the second level of my house at a barely-tolerable 88 degrees, I've gathered maybe 30 gallons of pure condensation in that barrel, which I'm using to water the animals. The condensation from your AC unit is a great source of "clean" water if you can find a way to reserve it.

Our chickens have decided to hang out on the North side of the house where the AC is located... THIS EXPLAINS why the DOG and the birds are MIA from their normal turf... because the saplings and water build up from the A/C is keeping them cool.. ha ha ha
