So cute!!!

This week is MY week--all kinds of Orps hatching (keeping my fingers and toes crossed) and a few others. These are ALL MINE!!!

Then, tomorrow I'll be setting more Barnevelders, Jubilee Orps and Olive Eggers.

Spring is so busy for us this year...graduations, soccer, business/work, chickens. I love it, but I kinda need a nap, ;)

Sorry for the double post. I have an interesting genetic outcome from my recent hatch.

As extras, a lady put in eggs from a lavender hen in with a chocolate roo. Because of the sex-linkage, no hen can be lavender (so the hens are chocolate) and no roo will have double Choc or Lv, so all the boys are black split to both. Now, choc and black look pretty similar at hatch, but not so much after a few days...neat!

Question for the incubating folks.
I really want to get started incubating. Right now, I simply cannot afford much. I'm thinking of a Hovabator, with the automatic egg turner. Can it be used both as incubator and hatcher? Can I turn off the turner, and turn up the humidity, at day 18, to get it to do the whole job? I'm hoping that before I get to that point, I can afford a second unit, that can simply be a hatcher, but, at this point, I am done trying to guess, when things will improve for me financially. So, I want a unit, that can do dual duty as both incubator and hatcher.
Any ideas on a better price than Amazon?

Strange as it sounds---one of my five week old chicks has disappeared. No evidence of foul play. It's like she flew off. She was the biggest of my RIR chicks and very pretty too.

If I said, "YESS!!" you'd be able to hear me. Thanks Doc.

As a date night, John and I celebrated my late birthday at a painting class last night. He painted the rooster, and I painted the hen. I will make some time this summer to paint companion paintings, cockerels, pullets, and baby chicks. I'm looking around for rustic frames that will go well with the paintings. If anyone sees a sale, the canvas size I need to frame is 16" x 20".

Spring is here! After I fed the breakfast club, I collected eggs. What a treat. I took a photo of yesterday's eggs and today's. I need to decide which to set and which to eat. The fawn and white runners started laying again too.

Have a wonderful day, chicken friends.

Coral-So glad to hear that it's getting better. If I recall correctly, it's been nagging you, on and off, for a while.
God bless your doc.
Thank you for your post : )

At the capon clinic you attended, you heard the beginning of the allergy problem that turned into a sinus infection that graduated and became pneumonia. With already weakened lungs, my pneumonia was followed a month later with an annoying but less threatening upper respiratory infection. Still battling allergies, and without warning, the allergies robbed me of my voice for over a week (laryngitis). The stomach flu hit in the middle of the laryngitis, which confused my doctor as well as myself. I endured the fever, aches, and the rest of the symptoms that yucky stuff brings, but the flu kept me from my classroom, which made me grumpy and sad.

I'm rarely sick, and this string of ailments made me sit down and look at my workload. Something needs to change, so my husband and I are working on a solution. We've set aside time once each week to talk about options for next year. He's a smart guy, and I've had lots of good work experience, so I think between the two of us we can find a solution that will prevent me wearing myself out. Thanks again for thinking of me : )
