Here is a pic of 2 of the showgirls I got last week. MJ got them from Jeansrie and I had to have them when I saw them.

With the egg rationing starting up, I think it's about time I actually start raising some chickens. I've browsed this forum for a year+ debating whether or not I could spend the time on them and I think I can. How long does it take to build your average chicken coop with a run included? :cd
Sort of off topic but has anyone heard of Jade Helm 15 going on in the lower states?

I think building a coop can take as long as you want! We set our posts with concrete, put cheap linoleum in it, and painted ours. It took about a week ( drying time included) of evenings. Our coop is around 4x4 and the run is 6x12, all covered. BUT we're adding on (because chicken math).

Chickens, once grown, are pretty low maintenance in my opinion, but just like anything else an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you spend a little time each week making sure they're healthy from beak to tail, you'll save yourself a lot of stress (and work).

Personally, the eggs were initially my reason for getting chickens, but now they're just one of the many benefits. They're so fun to watch (I hang out with them literally every day), great little garbage disposals, automatic fertilizers, assistant lawn mowers, organic bug exterminators, and natural compost turners.

If you have questions, this is a great resource.

Also, I've heard a lot about Jade Helm and don't know what to make of it.

I love them too. Thank you again, Jeansrie. I'm sure I will be telling you that again. Some of mine are just getting feathers growing in their crest and the look so funny and cute.
As you can see, I change my Avitar to a pic of one of my hens, Ezmeralda. She came from Betsy.

MaryJo the showgirls I got from you are amazing!! They are the most personable and friendly chicks.

Didn't someone on here call the showgirls with no bow ties strippers? I have been playing with names for the showgirls and if one is a boy I plan on naming him Magic Mike

So glad you guys are enjoying them!! I will have some frizzled showgirls available soon.. It's so hard to choose which ones to keep. Hopefully one day I'll get a little piece of land.

Did anyone see the Facebook posting about a nationwide egg shortage? Apparently in Texas they are rationing eggs is this another Facebook hoax?

Wife went to Aldis in Yukon and they have a "2 dozen per customer" sign out.
50 million birds lost Im thinking we won't be seeing Easter chicks out this year

I'm retired military. Training in the public isn't new but more transparent today than in the past. Unusual? No. Worthy of keeping an eye on? Yes
"We The People" should always watch, listen and participate otherwise you won't have what you have. It's not "someone" else's duty because we are someone. Pass the butter and the ammo

We have a patch of dew berries that has a ton of berries on it but a few have ants crawling on them. What is a good way to pick them a d get the ants off? I was thinking of having a bucket of water and putting the picked berries in it. Would that work?

I always rinse berries is water. It removes debris, ants and other bugs, as well as the occasional bird poo. With all berries, do not soak the berries in water for more than 10 minutes...they will fall apart.
