Sorry about you losing PW its always sad losing an animal or bird.Probably dont have what you like but i would be happy togive you a bird

Nanakat sorry for your loss-- know you did everything you could do for the little fellow

Sjarvis -- is that muscadine grapes you have at your place? Grew up where we had loads of muscadines-- which gave lots of muscadine wine--- been wondering if they would grow well around here

Anyone ever mess with wild citron melons--- they grew well out here last yr. This yr with the drought I still have 30 or so melons. Thought I may try to save some seeds, if anyone would like them. I know some people desire them for pickling & jams. Chickens dont touch them- even if I bust it open & put it in their treat tray.

NanaKat when I used to raise pigeons I would keep a cat in the loft most of the time. Start them out when real small and they and the birds would get along great. Yes Michael I agree. Just the few months I been on here I have seen people come and go.

That's nice of you to offer Don...I'm good. PW was one of those special little birds that was a pet not a breeder. He was a silverlace Polish that UpcDazy gave me because she couldn't have roos in the city. He was Personality Plus.

Spent the morning putting up 4 roos (My big roo, a BR and two cross roos) for the freezer and will work up two more tomorrow...another BR and an EE (he is gorgeous).
I have three little SLWyandotte roos that are 4 months old...will wait on them and pick the nicest one to be the roo for the three SLW pullets. These were the little black chipmunks I bought at Atwoods in the spring.
The birds I bought from Jarvis are growing nicely. The Columbian Wyandotte trio are getting big! The BLRW pullets are now laying and will be using The Jarvis roo to fertilize eggs from them for fall. The two Blue Cochin pullets have a new roo (3 -4 week old) to grow up to service them - Thank you Carl and Stephanie.
That will make four roos to specialize breed pens...something I haven't done before.

I have a young Australorp roo coming up also to run with the Australorp, Delaware and black sex link layers. The rest of the girls (EE, New Hampshire, Polish, Chantecler, Hamburg, Ancona, RIR will be running single for a while. It's too hot to try to let any go broody or place eggs in the bator. The heat has caused the girls to slow down a little on egg laying too.
The Cochins and the White Crested Blue (lavendar)Polish are in the hot tub room with Angel. I have an empty cage in there for anything else that begins to look stressed.
Just counetd up and there are 14 different kinds of chickens in my flock....wow.

The soaked oats were a hit with all the pens today. I tossed out several cups into each pen and you would have thought I was passing out candy to children.

What a great story Michael! I so much enjoyed talking to you back in May the night before POOPS when we had dinner at that place in Fletcher. You are an interesting, kind, wise person and I am glad to know you.

Jade yes was wondering about domestic cats. I know they will play havoc on the young birds, but didnt know if they were tough enough to bother a full grown bird. I have had a couple bantam hens come missing, and cant help but think it may be house cats. Lost a rooster off a string here while back, but pretty sure it was a coyote. Where the bantams were it would almost have to be a cat or coon. I have about taken care of the cat problems. Now setting live traps for coon or more cats. Thanks for the reply. Guy

I lost a few real nice oriental & pit games to coyotes pulling them off tie cords. If the hitch didn't give, all I'd find was the leg left behind. The stakes were down too good to be yanked up.

Betsy! Good luck with your rehab and congratulations on already being so mobile - be careful and don't overdo it. Please let me know if I can do anything to help you and Vashi or if you need anything from town.

Our youngest daughter just made us grandparents again. It's a GIRL!

They live in California, so it will be months before we get to meet the little lady in person. This is our first grandchild whose birth was announced via facebook, text message, e-mails, online photos, and phone calls, all simultaneously.

It should always be ice Cream day... I think we need to support our local dairy farmers so buy or make plenty you need at least one bowl a day to stay healthy. To heck with apples ice cream will keep the doctor away too.

I agree with celebrating Ice Cream Day all year. In addition to keeping the Dairy Farmers in business, in my case it also keeps the cotton farmers going, since I keep having to buy more and bigger clothes...
