***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have found that temperatures over 90 will affect the fertility of the rooster. As temperatures rise, I don't collect eggs to hatch when I first see a decrease during candling. When temps get cooler, fertility returns. Might try a late broody hatch if one goes broody on you. She will raise them instead of you having to do a winter brooder box.....unless of course any are nekkid!

I have had horrible hatches all year from early spring on.

The little nakeds and Rudy got fall clothes today. This is the littles first clothing and they were not impressed. They will only need to wear them for 3 days this time though. Forecast shows 3 days w highs in the 70's, Rudy could have tolerated that well, but didn't want to chance the littles getting to chilled, and this gets everyone some clothing experience before they have to wear the bigger stuff.

Just sharing pics of one of my showgirl grow-outs. I held on to her because her splash markings were unique - I really like her!

I kept a Splash Silkie and a Splash Showgirl, both pullets, and a Blue Silkie cockerel from your birds. The Showgirl was the smallest chick from the chicks that I got from you. They all are sooooo friendly. My husband niticed how sweet they are when he took care of my birds while I went to Michigan to see my parents.

@Adorkable It's one of those jokes that has just enough truth behind it to make you think. I would hope no one would every poach someones backyard turkey or chicken but who knows what someone will do when they feel like they could save money or make a quick dollar. Ive certainly seen people steal (or worse) for a lot less. I've already placed one of the houses security cameras to cover the yard where the chicken coop will be. This is partly for security but mostly so I can watch them while I'm in my office.

People steal birds from the chicken auctions, from the cages in the barn after they sell and are waiting for the buyers to get them and even from the cages before they sell.- Can't say what I would tell someone if I saw them stealing chickens!

What I really want to do is put a door in the fence from the chicken yard to the front so they can free range in front of my office window thus ensuring that I get absolutely no work done. I really don't think they would leave the front yard but the chicken yard is big enough that I doubt they would look for another place to forage.
I sure wouldn't

This was my Blue Breda Guldre cockerel.

This is not the best photo but below was my Splash Breda Gueldre Pullet. TheY are a really mellow breed. The are so gentile you can even put two cockerels in the same pen with out problems. They have feathered feet and vulture hocks. They lay white eggs. The unique thing about them is that they are the only combless breed of chickens.

Lovely!
