Hi it’s been a little bit since I have been here, my silkie hatch these three chicks out and I had to rescue the chipmunk colored one from a snake out in my hen house so they are inside at the moment I’m not sure right now if it 100, because I have a Cochin hen who lays a few eggs but if it is 100 silkie dose anyone know what color it will be? The roo is blue, I added some bedding after I took this picture also.

@miohippus if the white hen and the blue rooster are your only silkies it’s likely the third chick is a mix. Chicks from those parents should be somewhere in the white/blue/black coloring (provided your genetics don’t have other influences and the coloring they have isn’t just chance). As for what the chick will look like grown it’s anyone’s guess. A lot of chicks start out with that chipmunk look. My Easter Eggers all start with a similar look and there’s no telling what they grow into. But if the only other hen option is your Cochin it might help to know what her coloring is. My Partridge Cochins start out with chipmunk coloring.

this is what she looks like I’m not sure what color she is her mom was a calico I don’t remember what color her dad was and am pretty sure she is the only other hen laying eggs I have a really old red polish hen but I’m not sure if she is laying any more

I’d bet that chipmunk chick comes from her. She was probably a little chipmunk chick herself. It’s always interesting to see what some of the mixes grow up to look like. I don’t know what the feathers will be like. I’ve never had silkies and don’t know if that soft fuzzy look is a dominant gene.

I have had crosses before and they have had hard feathers (I think that’s what they are called) but if you breed those back to another silkie I think there’s a 50% chance of silked feathers but not sure

Two of the girls started earning their keep. First eggs are always exciting. The small ones are from my Egyptian Fayoumi and I don’t know which if the Easter Eggers is laying. I’m hoping that the Fayoumi’s eggs get a little bigger as she matures.

Hey ya’ll! I am new here to BYC and am excited to begin my chicken journey. I live in central Oklahoma, and soon will be looking for bantam Cochins to start my flock. If anyone has an idea of where I can find them locally, let me know. :)

Hello neighbor! I'm in Blanchard too! I don't have any bantam cochins tho. Just Ameraucanas and Seramas.
Welcome :)

Hello fellow Okies! I’ve tried searching but I’d love some input from people who are dealing with the same temperatures.

We are in SW Oklahoma. We have 4 chickens outside and 3 week old chicks just about outgrown their indoor brooder. How hot is too hot for chicks to move outside? They have their own coop and run, separate from the big girls. I obviously know to change waters often and keep an eye on them. Is 3 weeks too young? They are mostly feathered and they hardly use their eco glow heat plate anymore, just at night. I would still have that out in the coop as well for night time.

I appreciate any help!

here is the chart on temps, i would be more concerned with predators, escpecially snakes, they are attracted to peeping - so i'd want to make sure it is surrounded in hardware cloth- burried etc

The coop is reinforced with hardware cloth. And the temps at night are in the 70s, so that’s good! It’s just the high temps of 100°+ that have me worried. They’re acclimated to the temperature in my house now.
