Is there an auction this weekend? I didn't think they were doing 5th Saturday. Though the next auction is suppose to be August 6th??? Did I miss something?

Loaded chickens for nothing, no auction. Guess I should have checked first.

DH had knee surgery today. He is doing much better than he was last time. However I think the hospital pain Meds have officially worn off. He just got up for a few minutes & was looking much worse than when I brought him home.

The nest box liners ordered from EggCartons.com arrived this morning, so I can pull out the older liners and start fresh.
I really like free shipping specials from that company.

For those of you who order stuff from EggCartons.com they have a free shipping promotion that ends at midnight, tomorrow, July 31. Enter the promo code NLJUL2011 in the checkout process to get the free shipping. Their egg cartons now "ship free" all the time, but I like the 13x13 excelsior pads that I can pull and compost when they get nasty. They seem to cushion the eggs so they don't get broken as often and keep the eggs cleaner that way. The hens certainly prefer laying their eggs in a box that has a liner as opposed to one without one.

I have an adequate supply of leg bands and thermostat wafers and fowl catchers from EggCartons.com, so don't need to order more at this time. They really have a lot of products other than just egg cartons and were the only place I could find the octagonal replacement bases for my 5-7 gallon water fonts http://www.eggcartons.com/Replacement-Poultry-Fount-Base/productinfo/PPF302/

(note
: I do NOT get a commission from that supplier - I just like their products and FREE SHIPPING !!!!!!! )

P&B I bet those nest pads would make good mulch too. They would hold together good.

Got back from the local sale. It was pretty good today. I sold some cull bantams, they were good ones just not the right color, etc. I bought a doe rabbit and sold a doe rabbit. The one I bought is really pretty. She has some Hareliquin in her and is white/red/ gray spotted.
Then I got the yard mowed again for the second time this week. Have to rake grass after while. I can't believe it grows so fast. One of these days I'm going to have a bagger,I hate raking! But it was nice to get out to the sale and mow the yard. Spend a little time alone . Its been a rough week with MIL. I can't decide weather its all demntia or part coniving, manipulative old lady.

Finally got a nice shower, but it was really too short to do any real good. The oldest tree in our yard appears to have now died--undoubtedly over 50-year-old oak that has been having problems. This winter and now the heat seem to have done it in. It shades most of my original poultry complex, so will begin shedding more huge limbs that will crush some of the pens . . .

Probably losing other trees as well, and we have a LOT of really nice, unusual, ornamental trees; most with quite a few years in the ground. The largest pink dogwood is looking bad, though it is one I water occasionally. Not up to moving much water around yet.

Yes, it seems to be OK. It folds its huge leaves into triangles when it gets too hot and that seems to help a lot. It is also in the lowest part of the yard so the soil doesn't dry out as badly as in other places. I gave its baby to SplitSocket awhile back, but I know there is another back in there somewhere. Hope we don't lose it. The Dawn Redwood is one of the ones looking worst right now, which is a bit of a surprise.
