***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes, someone teach Robin chicken math. She doesn't have NEAR the birds she thinks she does. She's actually about to run out, I'd say.
And to those who answered my Roo in the Rain question-thanks. It makes sense that they can't see well in the dark and that's why he wouldn't move once it started raining.

[ Havney, Are you sure you got a trio? The first and third pics are both roos I am thinking!Second pic is a hen/pullet for sure. Very pretty birds![/qalthough i did uote]

Well, when I got them today I asked her if the one in pic #3 was for sure a pullet...lol.
I was just looking at how nice he/she was out of the rest because she supposedly had them all seperated. It sounds like some of my other pullets who's voices are changing. I guess take a closer look tomorrow..

Yes, I'm easy to spot, not very creative w/ screen names. I just don't want to forget who I am!

The older I get the more likely that becomes.

What kind of birds do you have and what kind would you like to acquire?

Your not trying to enable an addict or future addict are you P&B we need to be subtle until thier hooked, but seriously Dave if you think you might want or possibly need just one more bird I bet we know where to find them, and can make several suggestions about things that might work for you..

lol - Dave is my other half! And we did make it to Blanchard this evening - and we did sell two little bantams ... and we did bring home 6 more little RIR chicks! See? Dave did it! He encouraged me to raise my hand! (At least that's what I'm telling myself now that they're here in the brood box.) Let us see now, 12x-2y+6z= CHICKEN MATH!!

That doesn;t make sense, you sold 2 and brought home 6 chicks that make syou -1 chicken. You need to go back and try again, at least until you are even, but preferably +1 or more. But when you consider that two people went, and 2 birds sold, and you purchased 6 chicks wich dont count till they can lay eggs and if they crow they really dont count I think you lost and need to be at least +4 so that both of you can have chickens.

Kass it's ok, I have been using jcatblum for my screen name everywhere for 12 yrs. It is all our initials & last name

Josh
Christina
Alexis
Taron
Blum

Easy enough & no one gets left out!

Began the renovation of an old wood conure cage to turn it into a winter home for the teen pen. It was 48 inches tall and 30 x 30. I'm laying it on it's side and adding a 3 hole nest box at one end. This one has a lot of plywood so it will have to be sealed and painted.

Working on a winter abode for the Wyandottes. It's 30 x 30 and will be 42 inches tall with two levels of roost bars and two nest boxes added on one side. I'm using mostly 1x lumber for this one.

For each I'm making a 1 x 1/2 inch mesh bottom and will set them up on either railroad tie or cinderblocks inside the pens. The doors and vent windows will have sliding panels for security and weather proofing. I have tar paper for the roofs too. And a set of handles so the coops can be moved easily by two people.

Took me a while to figure out what I wanted. I have to visualize it, then draw it out before beginning the construction. Of course, there is the tear-down time getting the renovation in process. I like using screws for wood rather than nails...seems to hold together longer. I don't like power tools either...better, they don't like me. But I can handle a drill for a little while.
I'll post pictures when they are closer to completion.

Hopefully tomorrow will be cool in the morning.

nanakatTomorrow should be nice,
We have spent the day or rather evening cooking down about half the pears we collected from a friends tree into pear butter. have the other half to go tomorrow then jelly from the juice from cooking that down. It looks like 4 5gal. buckets is going to make a lot of butter and jelly nearly 1 1/2 galons on the first half and a nearly 3/4 gallon of juice for jelly. Steph is real busy now.

If Dave is your other half, we may need to try and enable him to buy some more chickens since you only bought chicks tonight. Next time you are at Blanchard and see someone wearing a rooster T-shirt, please come over and introduce yourself so we can put a face with the name.

There were several folks from BYC at Blanchard tonight: Stimp and his lovely wife, Lou, Al, Michael Daugherty, Funchick and Funchick's Roo, Monty, Muesky, EggMan, Upcdazy, NoCityBoy, Modernman, Old*Cowboy, MJgigax, the Glass brothers, and of course Jerry/Auction Lover. Some of us sat in the back of the room, near the back roll-up door and a large fan.

I was very pleased not to come home with anything that requires feed and water. I feel like I got a good deal on some 6 foot chain link fence - which EggMan/Gerald was kind enough to haul off the auction property for me. I bought 2 rolls of the same vinyl coated chain link fence 3 weeks ago at Blanchard, so should now have enough to put in the two fences we need.
