***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning Okies !!! Na-Na, Pa-Pa and TJ still around
once in a while. Think we're finally nearing the
top of the hill healthwise and we're sure READY !

We're not going to make the Tulsa State Fair,
but think we'll be ready for the 4-H schedule,
Pryor Game Bird Show, Fayetteville, etc.

One of TJ's good buddies...LOL...blessed him
with some super nice Bantam Light & Dark
Leghorns. They're beautiful birds and he is
on cloud nine and can't wait to take them
to town. TJ hasn't worked that hard on the
pens in a long time.

Have a good one !

Ok, looked again. They aren't in the 2001 edition of the standard of perfection.

I got the 2010 edition they are on page 386+, has standard colors listed as Pearl, Lav, and white.

In years past I would see guineas shown at fairs entered in gamebird class with quail etc. Now they have their own little section. I think mine would run them selves to death just going around the edge of the show coop. I seen the movie ice age with grand kids when it came out. I am a firm believer that guineas are the closest living relative to the doo doo birds that were in that movie.

Moved some birds around early this morning and did get a little work done in the garden before it got hot! Have 4 pullets caged with food and water under the cooler to go to a neighbor this evening. We have two cows limping on one of the leases and loaded the panels for a temp catch pen for in the morning. Hate to work cattle or chickens in the heat...really stresses them.

Congratulations to the varmit catchers, the bird showing girls and all those improvements made in pens...lots to be recognized for success.

Congradulations to all the youth that have been sucessfull at the fairs with thier birds, The Show season is coming up quickly for all.
Everyone keep th ekids in mind for show season and make sure they get the support they need, I know there are several 4-H poultry clubs springing up across the state lets keep that trend going and offer support to the 4-H leaders too.

Yep, need to get me a copy of the new one!

Morning or afternoon all1. No I didn't just get up!lol. Just got a moment to sit. Took care of the critters this morning, chopped them all some "salad" to eat. Really likeing the new birds I got yesterday! Then I washed and cleaned both vehicles ,trying to make it rain!lol

Kass our vet had us do Izzy(the taco dog) that kind of iv when she had the new parvo strain. Applyed the fluids under the skin in a big lump! He let us bring it home and do it to save cost, but the equipment and fluids were stll over $200! It was really gross seeing that big lump under the skin. Almost more than than I could stand!lol.

TJ's Nana so great to see you post! Glad you aqsll are doing better. Great to theat TJ is getting excited about the birds again!

Cowboy better take it easy today and get some rest! We aren't as young as we used to be and those 24 hour pulls are harder on the the bodys!lol Hope your new place has plenty of room and /or places for all your birds.

Congratulations Yonna, Annabell and Virginia! Annabell, your win is marvelous! I assume it was you, Beth, who visited with my two new chicken friends from the OKC area? They may have told you they're long-time dog show people who retired but HAVE to have something to show! They love their silkies. Brenda called me yesterday excited about the show.

Averytds, that lower complex will be used very little anymore because of the danger and the amount of work it would take to make it safe again. There are still good birds in the far left-hand three pens that we have beefed up, and I think the original guinea house will still be safe for my young guineas when they outgrow their pretty secure growout pen next to the house. The others were safe IF they were locked in their tight coops at night, but it has been too hot to lock the silkies in--am afraid they'll suffocate because they pile on. I was down to almost ONLY my show birds, so the losses from any pen were severe. Have already moved the best birds to the most secure pens, but I have a lot of nice youngsters that need to be moved to roomier accommodations. Am almost to the point with my knee that I can make the rest of the renovations in the greenhouse. Have done almost no incubating this season, but the hens have hatched more on their own than I expected. I've been able to keep them safe, but now more need to be moved as they've grown.

I plan to take quite a few youngsters to the Green Country Swap in Stillwel next month, and to bring others to Shawnee.

Darn, hate to see the lost space. Don't know what your dimensions are, but I've been eying those 10' x 6' prebuilt chainlink panels they sell at Orscheln's. I even thought about attaching over the top. They run about $75/ea though, so I haven't been able to commit yet. Maybe you can reclaim more in the future.

We've been trying to get the girls' birds out and on the ground more. We made 4' W x 6' L x 2' H hardware cloth, wood and tin roof completely open air tractors. I really liked them. They were easy for Macy to move around, easy to tend and were helping with yardwork. Then we lost several birds, of course some of DDs best, to heat one afternoon and quickly brought everyone in to AC. We've done almost no hatching. We've spent a lot of time and money running to Wichita for testing. Hopefully we can get things back on track this Fall.

We didn't make it to State or Coffeyville this year. Sundy asked me to be the KS state rep for the ASBC, so I'll have to start figuring out a state meet for next year. Macy of course wants to go to the ASBC district meet in Sedalia. DS wants Shawnee because its the Ameraucana SC district meet. I'm not sure either will have birds ready or that there'll be $ to go .so

I just like to look and visit, so if they say they've got birds ready and I can find the $, we'll be there.
