Yippee! The best looking birds in the whole wide world are Blue Cochins! Seeing a Blue Cochin by chance at a garage sale is what sent me plunging & stumbling into the big world of chickens

I know I've told that story before but it still amazes me what an effect seeing a Blue Cochin had on me. It's like I'd never seen a bird before in my life.

Going to a garage sale an seeing birds would be great!!!!!

They weren't selling any of the chickens but they had lots of Guineas for sale. I did buy 4 of those, love my Guinea birds

My White Chanteclers are from Sand Hill. It took two hatching seasons for the full order, though, because they had exceptionally hot temperatures and fertility was low. You'll see in the catalogue that there are maximums one can order per hatch. Their birds are of the highest quality. To make full orders I added "heavies" and received some wonderful Jersey Giants and Langshans, which I raised to 4 months and then sold. All chicks come straight run.

What are you thinking of ordering?

NanaKat,
looks like you are doing a great job raising those birds, they are looking lovely.. I should have another Columbian Pullet I can give you by Dec. or Jan. let me raise them out a little and pic you real nice one, that cockrell is looking good for his age.

OOOHH Thank you. Would love that. I wondered what you would think of the cockrell. He is really a great roo and is crowing now too. I moved the teen SLW roos to another pen to fatten for the freezer so he is the only roo with 13 little ladies. He is calling them to crickets and treats. So far he hasn't started to dance for them but he knows how to wine and dine them.

The little Black Cochin roo is doing great also. Will have to post a photo tomorrow. He has grown these past few weeks and is now abut 2/3 the size of Angel...his adoptive mom.

I'm going to be trimming the rump feathers soon on the BLRWs. Jarvis roo has breeding down pat now and we need to up the fertility ratio. The late bloomer hen laid her first egg today so now all three have begun laying. They are molting a few feathers now also.

Can't wait for the fall temperatures to begin.

I can come out and give you hand trimming them up sunday monday or thursday.. or next weekend, just let me know what works for you.

Morning!

Girl Scouts are meeting again after their summer break. I got a call to make a teapot for the mother/daughter tea fund raiser. I experimented with an underglaze called cascade to see how much it would cause the base coat to flow. It was too active around the handle, but otherwise I think it turned out well. I have one more in the kiln. I didn't use as much cascade on the second teapot, so the results should be noticeably different.
