***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My birds hate me. My boys are losing their main sickle feathers. My girls are growing mutant eyebrows. Everyone's popping up black feathers, even the buffs. What in the name of Sam Hill is that all about? They know we go to the show in nine days. They hate me.

MJ so sorry to hear about your young birds.

Took Beau (CW roo) and a CW pullet inside to bathe and dip a few days ago. They both had mites. They were both still damp even after using the blow dryer on them so I left them inside in the bathtub over night. She went back out the next morning, but Beau got a little more time inside He has obviously lost some weight either due to the mites or from his constant roaming with his girls calling them to feed. Of course another influence could be his relationship with the other rooster and the cockerels. He is second roo to Samson, but they both keep thier flocks separated when out freeranging. The Cochin cockerels are beginning to try to assert themselves some.

Anyway, Beau is on a conditioning feed mix. He gets 1/2 cup of a moist mixture twice a day that has two scrambled banty eggs, 1 TBS canned cat food, 1 Tbs yogurt and a little honey mixed with 1/4 cup of the dry mix. This makes a moist chunky mash. The conditioning dry mix is to help boost his protein and hopefully help him put back on the 3 - 4 ounds he has lost. Beau usually weighs about 15 pounds.
.
The Conditioning dry mix recipe I use..
1 1/2 cup layer pellet
1/2 cup game bird feed
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup game bird conditioner
1/2 cup showbird conditioner
1 cup of calf manna
1/8 cup chick grit
1 TBS red cell drizzled over and mixed well
1 tbs olive oil drizzled over and mixed
Finally one Centrum Vitamin finely crushed added at the end of mixing and mixed well to distribute.

Beau has access to this dry mix the rest of the time in the floor pen. He likes being where he can "talk" to the hens and this morning he was crowing....good sign. He wolfed down his moist feed mixture and then started on the dry. And then he went after the clipped green grass and chopped turnip greens I had made available.
His tail is still not up all the way which indicates he is still weak but it looks like he is doing much better.

We have all gone broody...real growlers

Two Cochins...make her move out of MY spot! I was here first!

My Cochin cockerel row yesterday...Noboby wanted to go out in the wind
All but the splash hatched from eggs from Bo's Blue pens. The roost board is 4 inch wide...their feet need that.

Yes I'm gorgeous...Thanks to Bo's Blue breeders.

I need to post a pic of my LF Buff boy. He has really filled out after a bad molt. He is massive but I wish He would put on a bit more weight. I can feel his keel bone. I should try your wet mash recipe.

I had a 14 foot Burmese python once with a respiratory infection and needed Baytril Injectable and couldn't find a vet that would see a snake that size so I called one and said "I am bringing this sick animal to you so you can write me a script for what was needed" he literally shouted NO! in the phone and asked what pharmacy I wanted it called in to LOL I got it and treated the snake but it died a few days later it was too late for it but oddly the bottle of Baytril was stolen out of my fridge a few months later not sure what anyone would want it that badly for..

Okay guys, Ive got some "apple cider vinegar" now. What do I do, put a couple drops in their water? Im doing this because my Sultan is continuing to have some runny poo? So is the apple cider vinegar supposed to make the water more tastey to them, or does it have some kind of special ingredient in it or what??? -Thanks

UPDATE: Barred Rock Roo is doing okay, I looked at his wing a bit more closely and doctored it a little better than I have been last night. He seems to be doing okay. He didnt put much of a fight up for when I tried to catch him. He actually got to the point where he fell asleep in my arms while walking around with him. I was pretty proud of that. Still pretty skiddish though. There is a tear in his muscle, but its too late for stitches I think. So the most I can do for that part of the injury, is just let it heal together the best it can. I am going to the feed store tonight to pick up some "Blue Kote". But so far, so good. Thank you all for your support!

The Apple Cider Vinegar needs to be the unfiltered or natural because the "mother" or cloudy substance provides the probiotics which are good for the gut. Probiotics encourage good bacteria in the gut. I use a glug per gallon...which is about 2 Tbs. Do not use galvanized tin water containers. You need plastic or ceramic. The tin makes the ACV go bad and the vinegar corrodes the tin/metal containers.
