***OKIES in the BYC III ***

morning everyone,
Doesn't seem like Friday because DH and I had the day off Tuesday for Dr.s appointments. Wednesday then seemed like a Monday. DH has to have another back surgery. A bone spur is growing from one of the vertibrae involved in the fusion. It is growing a mm. a month and affecting his right leg.

On a good note: So glad I get to go to Shawnee. Hope to see as many of you as I can there. We should have a gathering spot in the bleechers of the sale room. What time will we head to the restaurant?

I'm selling both my Brinsea incubators and my Little Giant if anyone's interested. The bigger Brinsea holds 24 eggs (28 without the dividers) and has the turner with it, I paid $180 for it with the turner and used it 3 or 4 times, I'd like to get $120 or so for it. The smaller Brinsea holds 10 eggs and you turn the eggs yourself 3 times a day. I paid $90 for that one with shipping & would like to get about $60. I had excellent hatches with both of them. The Little Giant holds 42 eggs and comes with the turner, I paid $75 for that one and would like to get $40.
I also have a Brinsea EcoGlow 20 chick brooder, that warms 20 chicks. It was $70 and I'd sure like to get $40 for that, it's super handy instead of using light bulbs they huddle under it and keep warm.
I've lost several of my most favorite birds in the last few wks and I just don't want to keep hatching and getting attached only to lose them. I'm keeping all the birds I have and hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. I don't see how you guys do it :-(

Ksane, my birds are pets to me. Not no food source or anything like that. They bring enjoyment and entertainment to our lives. I treat them just like I do my dogs. I had to get rid of my Irish setter / golden retriever dog after the tornado last year just because the new place was not set up for a outside dog. It killed me to get rid of her (our daughter took her) but that did not stop me from getting another dog after made some changes.

When a bird gets sick or suddenly passes it hurts but it also just life, I deal with it and move on. I just buy two birds to replace the one.

Please think about this some more before you start selling off your stuff because come springtime you will regret selling them. We sure missed having the out building after the tornado because we had no place to house the chicks that hatched. So we built a out building before we did the new living area.

I got my future chicken/turkey plucker home and unloaded this evening it's a bit larger than what I was looking for but I think it will work out great and be plenty big enough to pluck turkeys or geese if I need too, I just need to make a cut or three and separate the inner tub from the outer one, the inner tub I'll set up to use as a scalding pot or can even use it to fry whole turkeys in LOL making the cuts are going to be the hard part, Any suggestions?

I know who to call next year when it comes time to process some turkeys. My brother NoCityBoy won a turkey frier at a work dinner.

Not sure if I will make the Shawnee show . It depends on how much I get done on the room today. Trying to beat the cold weather coming in this weekend. What time do I need to get there if I was to buy some birds?

Some folks are saying get there early Saturday because they will sell pretty quickly.

Although, I bought a nice pair of Spangled OEGB on Sunday morning last year as showers were loading out. Many left before I got there.

Good idea Mary Jo to meet in the bleachers in the selling area.

We will head out for lunch around 11:15 or 11:30. The restaurant is about 5 minutes from the Expo.

figure it will be quiet here on the board, so thought i'd toss up a pic for giggles- a couple weeks ago something spooked the guineas out of their tree, so lately that have been hunting for a more secure roost- so they pick this one on the porch, needless to say, i need to reinforce it if they keep using it...

And put a protection on the porch underneath the roost......

Nice birds by the way

going to get up early to check the pens and then head to the EXPO. I'm bringing my camera for pictures of birds and BYCers.

Show Goers: Take lots of pictures for the folks stuck at home : )

Kendall is improving. She no longer requires forced oxygen, so she can rest better now that the tubes are gone. I had a chance to see her via webcam. She looks so much stronger. I'm grateful to all who sent her encouragement through thoughts and prayers.
