***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Salutations to all my fellow Okies ..

Been another long time in between the hi's and hello's... and then y'all were on my mind this morning.. So much been going on my time on the BYC is obviously been hit and miss and I apologize to all my former fellow feathered friends. Jason returned home on 3rd December from his 9 month tour in Afghanistan.. SO THANK YOU MARIBETH FOR YOUR GREAT KINDNESS IN SENDING HIM CAREPACKAGES!!!!

In October DD and I along with our Pastors 12 year old daughter were involved in a freak roll over accident on our way to a singing... by Gods mercies we walked away with just minor cuts and bruises... My Truck was deemed a total loss, and some of the responders credited the roll bar for helping to keep the roof of the cab from crushing where the girls were sitting. but I of course believe the LoRd has other plans.. even if to keep us around for humor.. ha ha ha

Last weekend Jason drove the family and I down to Attica(3 hours south west of us) and he bought me a new truck... this time he insisted on a Cummins instead of a Duramax..lol Since the accident I had been relying on dear church family until Jason could be home.

Quite a few of our hens began to lay only to realize they were laying under the sun room and we cant get to the eggs... but we did get blessed with a few eggs from our Americana's and they were more in a light pink colour :)

I have learned something about Leghorns and that is the LH Rooster is very mean and attacks us... anyone else experience that too.. this is our first "year" with leghorns as we normally always had other breeds... and I don't like being attacked anytime I am outside, I guess its surprising to me because all our chickens we bought them as chicks this past Spring... I wouldn't think they would be aggressive knowing who we are and that we feed them.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas for those who partake in the festivities. At the present moment we are home bound as the weather has been pretty blustry since last evening and its as every bit as cold outside(16 degrees) as it is snowy

Hey eveyrbody, hope you guys had a good Christmas. Santa was good to us over here. I did get the room addition completed on the inside so we were able to have a Christmas dinner for those family members that dared to make the drive down to Blanchard. We will be having another dinner on Saturday with our kiddo's and Grandkids. We really have missed out on having family out for holidays since getting hit by the tornado, but now we have a decent size room to do that with.

Also I had gotten my wife a new bed for her birthday back in Nov. so we were able to have room to put that bed up! I tell sleeping in a RV, then an air mattress then to a sleeper sofa, and then finally to a the floor was no fun during that past 1/1/2 yrs.. It sure feels good to feel like we are finally starting to be back to normal living again.

Does anybody know were you can get those flat candle melters or coffee cup warmers? My says that she cannot find any, all the manufacters are going to the ll plug type. Was wanting to get some to set the birds water on to keep it from freezing.

This is brilliant! i was wondering how to keep a little bit of water from freezing. My Swedish Flower Hen was insistent on being broody. Nice time of year for it. AAaccckkk!!! Got some eggs from Kass. hatch day tomorrow, I think. Mama May is in a doghouse by herself for now. Her water freezes the fastest. I'm going to try this and see if it works when I get home.

A small light bulb inside a cookie tin (or any heat conducting enclosed object) that you sit your waterer on works well too. There is a thread about it called cookie tin warmer.
