Hi guys!!!

Long time no talk!

I wanted to let you all know that I will be moving back to the ever-blessed state of Oklahoma at the end of February!! YAY!!!! I also need to ask for a bit of help. If ANYONE knows of a friend, family member or business that is willing to rent out a house, townhouse, duplex, apartment...really anything that will allow us to keep our dogs and cat (1 German Shepherd Dog, 1 end-table that we call a Labrador, 1 Shih Tzu and 1 cat), PLEASE let me know. We are looking in the Claremore area, but are more than willing to look at Pryor, Broken Arrow, (the good part of) Tulsa, Owasso...any of the surrounding areas.

Thank you all SO much and we cannot WAIT to be back home!

Hey guys, just checking in. We have been over run with skunks here lately here too. This wk Taron put some birds into a breeding pen in hopes of setting some eggs in a few wks for her birthday. Duck eggs go in the incubator in the AM. My little lady has laid an egg a day for a wk. She is a super star!
To the person wanting to buy chicks, the auction could be a challenge, many people put 10-20+ chicks in a box. If you only wanted a couple of chicks, or a variety the auction wouldn't be a good choice.
Those wanting to try a poulty auction I would recomend getting your feet wet at the Newcastle sale. The sale focuses more on poultry than the other mentioned auction. I believe the next newcastle sale is 2/2/2013 at 5pm.
This is the auction thread

If you know anything that needs to be changed on the thread Grace will update it quickly.
Good night all!

Anyone else spending the day filling out the US 2012 Census of Agriculture? Sure wish they would send this out after I have all my tax info finished so it would be easier to complete the 24 page document. The form is due Feb 4. It's a good thing this is done only every 5 years....sure don't know how people who don't have good husbandry records and a 13 column ledger system get this accomplished! I've at least finished mine after working on it all day yesterday. Had to stop to figure a category every once in a while.

Chicks are sure growing.
Looks like a few may be white Wyandottes...no color on their wings...

I have wondered if it was worth getting the place a declared a farm according to the the government. I think I am going to keep it a farm to me and leave the government out.

We run over 100 cows with calves a year beside my chickens so having a farm tax number is a real asset. The census comes into play because we are on several government programs like NAP (non-insured assistance program) for crops like hay that can't be insured, DCP (pays a stipend to not plant a crop) and drought programs thru the CCC.
A general small farm won't have to do the census. You might find the benefits worth while.

Thanks for that info. Do you know where I would go to get started? Is it state or county?
