You are sure to find a fun group of fellow chicken enthusiasts who will help you grow your flock, expand your coop, Hatch more chicks and improve your chicken arithmatic.

Personally speaking...Went to the newcastle auction last night for the first time in quite awhile. There was a very large attendance! It is great to see so many like minded people gathering together. And it was great to visit with fellow Okies in the BYCers. I would say that the prices went a little high, but that didn't keep me from buying. Definately a sellers market this time. I quit going to the blanchard auction because it was 90% junk and 10% poultry. I hope this doesn't happen at newcastle. I noticed this time that they had more junk and an hour of FOOD??? auction. And they mixed it in with the poultry so you can't really avoid it or you may miss some of the eggs/chicks or chickens you wanted to buy. I walked away with a dark brahma trio and 13 americauna chicks. Again, great date night with the hubby and enjoyed catching up with everyone.

Newcastle is the opposite of Blanchard. You will get 90% poultry. Most other items will be farm related or produce (that grows on the farm).
Good to hear about the auction. We're the dark brahmas large fowl? The ones I saw last yr @ Newcastle were amazing! They stole my heart.
DH has worked on putting sheet metal over an old military wooden tent frame today. The entire 33ft length now has a roof. Leaves 8ft sides to cover with fencing & not sure what he is doing with the ends yet. He wants to be able to open the ends so equipment can drive through if we are not using it as a guinea pen. I will try to post pics when it is finished. Also got a bunch more used privacy fence pannels this wk for more pens.

Got some questions. We are getting ready to get a chick or a few; what size brooder box should we're get, what type of bulb, what temp should it be and how do we regulate it and what type of feed? Basically I need a shopping list. Can someone help please. Also when do we switch to different type of feeds?
I am new to having chickens have had mine for only a year but love them. I suggest you get a basic chicken care book it will answer most questions you have at least basics. I keep my chicks in a large storage container with lid off (can get it at any store) put news paper then wood shavings in the bottom You will need a heat lamp can get 1 at walmart or were you buy chicks, I just clip lamp to the side of box. I keep my chicks in the house so it stays warm plus they sit under the lamp. you will need chick starter first then at 6 weeks you switch to grower feed at 20 weeks & on give layer feed or scratch& grains or some of both. You will need a chick feeder (i just use a sallow bowl instead of buying the feeder, sometimes when you buy chicks they give you this) a waterer ( use a shallow bowl or lid (important if you use this put medium rocks in it so the chicks can't fall in the water cause the can drown). A basic how to raise chicken book will have all this info to help you more. What kind of chicks are you going to get?

Now I know who took those chicks! I am thinking about starting a run with Americaunas. I agree with you on Food, fresh veggies I agree with but that cooked stuff is starting to get out of hand. Even if those Choc. Pnut Butter Balls were very good! I got out bid on everything I wanted. That one boy was paying stupid prices for those Americanaus, 20 -28 per bird.

Yep I took the chicks but would have split the box with you if I'd known. I just wanted some blue egg layers. Now I'm thinking I need to raise em up and sell em to that kid in 3 months at 28 a bird. Lol and totally agree the glorified bake sale was out of hand. They should just have her set up a table at the back. But then she probably wouldn't get $3 for 4 pieces of peanut brittle

Does anyone on the east side of Oklahoma have peafowl? I am looking for a white hen, or hatching eggs from whites for a friend of mine who gave me two awesome incubators today. She bought two a year ago and they were supposed to be a cock and hen but ended up with two cocks. I would love to find her a hen in return for the incubators.
I know peafowl are expensive, can't really afford to pay alot, but I do have a pair of Royal Palm turkeys (tom and hen), I would be willing to trade even for eggs or partial trade and cash for a hen. The RP hen has been laying for over a week now.

So sorry to hear about your puppy, chickieboy.
We lost our little wienie dog last year. Everyone in the family still misses her so much. I hope you get to bring yours home to heal tomorrow
