***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Bardies, hope to meet you at Newcastle tonight. I will be there with my girls. Sorry about the calf. Was the redwood you were looking at here in Cement? There was one listed Thursday night & they spelled it wrong. Shared it with a few local people & the add is gone now.

Guineaguy I have some that color & considered them pastel. Wish I had pics of when they hatched to compare them too. Guinea colors are so complicated, but we love all of them!

Taron saw your pics Kass & said what pretty flowers. Our redbuds are not blooming either, but my alergies are already out of control.

Coral I am certain you will find great homes for your girls, dairy goats are hard to come by. I love my rebounder too, much easier on the knees than excercising on hard ground.

Bambi looks like she will kid in the next few days, her milk is really filling in. Yesterday I could fill her baby kicking as I was checking out her belly. Hope she makes a good momma.
Jcat, and others... Thanks for the condolences on the lost calf. Good news is I caught it in time before damage was done to cow. She should be fine! Yes, it was the funky spelling of incu...I mean inqubator. The guy was nice and found another for me at same price - one with a fan (I had asked if it had a fan). Of course this one was made of foam, and not redwood. Oh well, I am over it now...it all worked out in the end.
Did the marathon Newcastle auction, and now have a gqf 1202.
Question though - even with a fan, the temperature is several degrees lower on the bottom tray than where the thermometer is. I have not found any info on how to deal with this. Any advice Okies?
Also, sorry for the delayed response... my handy laptop has decided that it does not want to even scroll through backyard chickens anymore. Sheesh...time to go out and get a new one!
I loved that pied peacock - he was beautifull!!!!!
Thanks for listening to my rant earlier...

Morning : )

We're getting rained on. Just got back from church. Looks like the animals are staying in today. We're headed to Tulsa for lunch with our oldest and her family. Ted's Escondido is supposed to have some amazing tortillas. I'll let you know

DH surprised me with a sterling silver flock this morning (I'm a Saint Patty's Day baby). Seven "Chicken Little" retired charms and a rooster from Australia. The goat is late. He's coming from Australia as well. The safety chain is appropriately called "Dreamer." I hate to cry on my birthday, but I lost it when DH told me this way I'll be able to remember my favorite birds and know that they will be well cared for by friends.

Rooster. Gotta love a rooster.

That is amazing! What a wonderful DH you must have!

Not sure. We usually plant in the fall and harvest the next summer, however, my grandmother had garlic all over her yard that just came up randomly and she harvested when she needed it or wanted it.
That is what I am hoping for since my storage abilities are limited.

Quote: I plant both in the fall and in the spring. I just keep track of which beds get harvested in the fall.

Love the strawberry idea...keeps out the bermuda grass and the chickens... and most likely the pill (roly-poly) bugs. Would make a nice addition to the arbor. Thanks for posting the photo.

I think here in OK I would add silicone water storage crystals to the soil I think it would dry out very quickly otherwise.

Even better it may be the perfect set up for a aquaponics set up.

Hi guys! I have an odd question. We got Amigo back home and I am looking for a farrier. I think the shock has done something to his hooves and I want someone with experience to take a look at him to make sure he's still ok. Can anyone recommend a farrier that won't charge an arm and a leg?

Thanks for any info/leads on this!

Afternoon, Okie Chicken Friends : )

I feel blessed to know such wonderful people. My goats are going to live with someone who will care for them, so my heart is light. I'll transport them to their new home on Thursday. I'll post pictures after the girls are delivered. I want to celebrate their new home. If I talk about it too much now I'll just get weepy.

My younger brother, who has been absent from my life for about five years, is "stopping by" on his way through Tulsa tomorrow. He drives for a moving company, and his current load started on the east coast and will end in Texas. I need to let him know that the truck will probably have to stay on the road while he's here. I don't think he an make the turn up our drive with a tractor and trailer. My brother just returned from a trip to Micronesia, where we lived when I was much, much younger. I'll post a few pictures if I can figure out how to do that on this old laptop. I'm upstairs so I can sit with Mom. My desktop in anchored downstairs. This old dinosaur laptop is running an OS about four versions back, so I'm not able to use a lot of the gizmos on the thread.

Mom's reading on my Kindle. I downloaded the hardback book she brought (via Amazon) and then showed her how to adjust the font and illumination. She's had a lot of eye strain, so reading in this new format should help. I've been giggling to my self, watching her swipe the screen to turn the pages. She's reading faster than ever, and she doesn't even have to have her reading glasses on! I think I know what to give her for her next Un-Birthday, just as soon as Amazon has another special on Kindles.

Kass, thanks for the gout info. All help is appreciated. The swelling is alarming to me, but Mom claims it's not that bad. She's got one of the highest pain thresholds I've ever seen.

Coral you may want to look into audible.com for your mom. It is a monthly subscription for books that you can listen to on your kindle, or other devices. When DH is assigned to read a book for professional development I fell in love with audible.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't even considered audio books. Is there a maximum number of books one can listen to each month?
