***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Welcome mlmills79, if your in Oklahoma there are a few people and auctions to find what you want. Ive been away from chickens for awhile so im looking for a few chicken people myself. Just keep lurking and posting somebody should have it or know where to find it.

Getting ready for Blanchard auction. Taron is bringing a few chicks & eggs this wk.
Sale starts @5. See y'all soon.

it's soooo not fair!!! I wanna go!!! Blanchard is just to far today, heck don't even know where it is. Probably wouldn't feel that way but, I took the day off work last friday and the kids and I piled in the car drove to the supposedly HUGE vinita poultry auction. Man was that a waste, other than we had a good time together. They didn't have much (thats not their fault) but I didn't like the way it was run either, and you can't see very well, unless you've been before and you KNOW you have to get right in the middle in the front if you want to buy. Not my cup a tea so we wont make that drive again. Guess I'm spoiled, I love the chupps auction! good variety, friendly people, you can stand right by what you are bidding on. But once a month just isn't enough!!

cochins are more dangerous at taking over your heart than almost any other breed- except for favoerolles! That said, my 2 favorites- Miss Cassiopea, a giant cochin, - this girl can't be picked up with one hand, she must be at least 10-12 pounds-

and Mary, my bantam faverolle\

what beautiful babies you have!!! I want some like Mary, don't have any of those lol

Well, initially I was joking about starting an indoor garden with all of my early plant starts ... but more and more it's looking like my indoor garden may become real if this weather continues to be so cold and nasty. I suppose we'll still get 110 plus degree weather this summer too, just to add to the misery. Sigh. New chicken house is coming along slowly. Have most of one cordwood wall built, only three more to go. It's a looooooooot of work for being recycled. Way more time than just cutting up pallets and reusing the wood from them. And we still need to get started on the yard cover. I want their whole yard covered so that we can be gone for a weekend if we need to be without worrying that they will get out or something will get in. The neighbors whining about our chickens really needs to understand what creatures are out there rummaging around in their own yard that's more dangerous than our chickens. We even had a coyote in town over the last couple of weeks and we know we have a den of red foxes less than three blocks from us. Plus possums and skunks and armadillos and hawks and owls and racoons ... people just think there are no wild animals in town.

Well hope everyone has a nice (although dreary) weekend. Eat something good and warm, hug your children, and enjoy a good chicken show or two!

I know just what you mean! Thought I would get a jump on things so started some watermelon along with my other stuff, geez I will have to start over they are just uncontrollable in the house!! stupid ground hog I'm STILL mad at him! I swear even the ducks and geese are SICK of this weather!!!!!

I have an assortment of chickens! I have barred rocks, buff orphingtons, australops, silver laced wyandottes, rhode island reds, and a brahma rooster (16 chickens total). I also have 4 ducks. I have been incubating and selling chicks. I have 4 hens of laying age and the rest will start very soon, so I am in need of another rooster. I love the one I have now, he was a rescue and is a very sweet boy. I am looking for a rooster that is very friendly or is young so I can work with him, I don't do mean birds! My husband already thinks I'm nuts, so don't think I'll be driving to Blanchard for an auction! Anyway I'm north of Stillwater so I was trying to find a rooster somewhere close.

Well, even though my setup looks nice, it was NOT functional. BTW, it was designed by a GM engineer, no kidding. I couldn't get inside to clean the coop. So we built a new run. I just got a rooster, is there anything I should know about introducing him to the hens?

Well he wont need much from you< but a little Barry White and a glass of wine would be much appreciated from your girls as they are in for an exhausting evening!!! just watch he doesn't ruff up his favorite to much, he will spread the wealth so to speak lol but he will have a fav.
He needs 5 or 6 of his own ladies, how many hens did you say you are running?
