***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote: can't watch the video cause of bandwidth, but, if it is head shaking, give her a flea bath, blow her dry, then powder her with sevin, and make sure to dust her ears with it- been battling that myself with my birds- i have discovered some birds had mites purely by bathing them, even though i didn't see any on them- do you put ivomec drops on them for mites?

Kass, I'm jealous you have an iris bloom already. Mine do not have flower stalks yet. I have 2 wisteria and the younger one is going to give me blooms but the older one is already leafing out.
I was at the Myriad garden yesterday and saw they plant tulips and daffodils in the same clump so they bloom together. Gave me inspiration for this fall's planting.
I ordered some old fashioned daylilies a couple weeks ago. I love those things.
I wonder if planting them together keeps the squirrels from eating the tulip bulbs? Squirrels and skunks ate all of my tulip bulbs but won't touch the daffodils.

HeartsforAnimals, asked the girls about using flower & thumper for the goat babies & was denied, those are boy names. So far the are the one with all the brown & the white one.

I think those of you with pretty flowers in your yard are just plain talented! I've never grown flowers successfully & already told Josh to set aside a budget for getting the house landscaped professionally & stuff that doesn't need TLC. Maybe I should stick to a rock garden?

Everyone be careful in the egg auction thread if you are browsing. Somehow I won birchen maran eggs. oops! Also became very tempted by lavender muscovies. DH objected since they are just too ugly.

Our daughter really wanted to go home with some new chicks. Hubby put the foot down that we can't get hatchlings till after our trip to Disney World in May.
Psssssttttttttt...........Is Poops before disney? If so...good luck if Donnie comes. He brings a ton of fluffy butt!

Somehow?

Kass you should send some of your photos to Birds and Blooms magazine!

Outdoor Oklahoma mag has a photo contest every year too. I'm not sure who it's sponsored by but Oklahoma Wildlife org. has a contest too that they publish photos from across the state. I'll have to look it up online. I agree, Kass, needs to enter some photos! She's good!

Spent yesterday at a writers conference in Stillwater. It was good but my brain hurt by the end of the day ... as well as my posterior from sitting all day long. I kept getting up to walk around and one of the women asked why and I told her I wasn't used to sitting down until about 7:30 or 8:00 at night after working in the garden and with the birds all day and even later if I had to go to work as well. Kind of funny to have all day to just sit there. Then they told us we should commit like 2 hours a day to writing ... really??? You mean I can actually sit down for two hours at a time and not do anything except write? Wow, that would be nice!! Lol!! Can't really see it happening though, especially not with gardening season coming into full swing. I spent three hours thinning out carrots on Friday and then came home last night to find that my husband had let the bantys in the greenhouse and they had dug up the REST of the carrots.

I was not a happy person. Needless to say. So far, though, no one has gotten into the strawberries planted in the hanging gutter gardens!! Yeah!! Glad to see POOPS posted. I'm talking to hubby about it.

Hi y'all, just wanted to check in as a new okie member from the SE edge of Edmond, near Arcadia lake. We just got 5 chicks this past week and I must admit they are the cutest ones!!! We already have their coop built with an attached covered dog run for their protected yard. We then put the rabbit fencing around he bottom dug down a foot or so and then concreted in trying to protect against varmints etc. my biggest fear at this point for this area is the snakes. Have any of you lost chickens to snakes around here? What else can we do to protect our chicks? I was reading some of the other forums and they were talking about just picking up snakes they find in their coop and relocating them. . . . I am TERRIFIED of any living snake. . . . I do not want to ever find one in my chicken coop, what can I do to make sure I never see one in there? Scaredy cat in Edmond!!!!
