remember too, shipping is hard on them, so there could always be an issue in that regard- try getting some local ones and see if it helps

I'm sorry to hear that, are the ones you are loosing mostly the same breed? Do you see any symptoms? How old are they? Are they on medicated feed?It got really cold here last night and I lost 5 of my babies.... Idk what to domaybe I'm not cut out for the shipped baby chicks.... I just feel so bad! Maybe I should look for some older hens/ pullets.... If anyone knows of where I can find some, please let me know! Thanks!
Where are you keeping your babies? My brooders are set up in my kitchen and laundry room. It's a pain in the butt sometimes but they don't get cold at night. I leave them in until they are 4-6 weeks and mostly feathered out. Next year the back porch should be built so I won't have to deal with all the dust inside![]()

Since it is mostly one breed that are dying of non-trauma (drowning) causes I would think it is something wrong w/ the chicks before you got them, something genetic, or congenital. No there's never any symptoms.... I've had a few with pasty butts but I got that all cleared. Right now I have silkies (I've lost 6 of them) and Cochins that I haven't lost, I did lose a frizzle Cochin but it drowned in their water. All of my "packing peanut" extra males that are RIR's have done completely fine. Yes they are on medicated feed. I've given them ACV in their water and I've also given them boiled eggs.... I feel like a bad mom![]()

I know there are some byc okies who raise silkies, the one that always pops to mind first is Betsy, hers are very nice. There are probably others (and to you other byc okies who raise silkies I don't mean to not say your names I just don't know them) I think she sells started pullets as well as chicks. (though I don't know about sexed chicks). The only hatchery I have had positive dealings with has been Meyers, but have never got silkies so don't know if they have them at all or the quality if they do. I know how disappointing it is to really want a certain type of chick only to watch them all pass before your eyes and nothing you can do about it, I went through the same thing last year w/ blue NN's.All of these have been from Ideal Poultry. Any suggestion on where I should order some more or find some more? They're so adorable and cute and I would really like to try again to keep some!
I know it! It just breaks my heart because I feel like I'm being a bad "mom" or I should've tried harder! Thank you! I will check BYC for sellers. Ideal will refund your chicks within the first 4 days so I guess I will give them a call tomorrow and also look at Meyer!
