***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Lol, this is the first time I have tried the black cherry tomatoes. There pretty good. I grow them again next year.
I really like the taste (not so much the color for putting up) of the black tomatoes, but I think most of mine died this year. When I replaced I couldn't find the black or purple again.

I grew black cherry tomatoes last yr, but the plants were one that never produced for me. This yr I am picking Lemon Boy full size tomatoes before I ever had cherry tomatoes ready.

Today I was looking at my speckled Sussex chicks. I was wishing all chicks were as easy to sex as they were. Those cockerels are easy to spot from across the yard!!!!! We are finished priming the walls inside the new house & will be painting all day tomorrow.

Thought I'd share some Saturday chicken butt
She has a nice T-pee shaped rear...will make a good layer.

Lol, ya my radishes got relocated, they were coming up everywhere
I usually plant radishes in each row of other veggies so I can mark the rows. This year, the radishes did not come up.

We have been working on the rent house because the new tenants move in on the 4th. The grey water line was plugged with sand so the boys are digging a new one. And all the windows busted by hail have been replaced. The roofer came out to check our roofs...will be getting some repairs to the ridgelines and 1/2 a roof on the rent house plus paint repairs. .

Moved eggs to the hatcher...one has already pipped.

Will be putting incubator eggs under these girls...three Blue Cochin broodies and five Wyandottes in the hen house.

Those are some pretty blue girls. the girl I got from you at POOPS, Lola, is getting big. Her head and hackles are going to be dark blue.

My broodies have hatched 21 chicks so far in the past week. - Mille Fleur Cochins and Wheaten Ameraucanas and some crosses from my Blue Ameraucana hen and my Wheater Ameraucana roo.

Also growing in my flock now -
Joe rescued a Blue Game chick that nearly drowned when it hatched under a ramp at Jack's during the last hail storm. We call it Stormy, works for a boy or girl.
Then, this week a game hen hatched 8 chicks under a bush in Jack's front yard right by the front door. After she moved the 8 to Jack's back yard a 9th chick hatched late all by itself. "Slow Poke" is now in my brooder.
And...... a Guinea keet came running up our front side walk !? We guess it is from one of the guineas that are part of Jack's flock and the free range ones that move from the place across 29th Street into the woods and now roam our neighborhood and lunch with Jack's birds. Seems like it came from nowhere. It is already a couple of weeks old. I thought it is a lavender but it has a lot of tan it it. I will have to post a pic.
The game chicks can only stay it they are girls and are nice to my Cochins. Jack's games are all Blue Reds and just beautiful. They have the run of Jack's backyard. The roo, Rojo, may be the most beautiful rooster I have ever seen. He hops the fence and walks right into Jack's garage when his is working there.
The guinea may be too loud to stay in our pens. I don't know if it will be happy with only chickens or if it can going Jack's guineas? Can guineas become very tame?

New to the group, but feel right at home when reading the discussions. My wife and I will be moving from the Houston area to our 20 acres in Central Oklahoma south of Bristow. This will put us closer to our 10 grandchildren spread out between OKC and Tulsa. Looking forward to building our first coop to house 6 to 8 egg laying chickens. So much great advice at BYC. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and hope to meet other BYC OKIES.
