***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yesterday my shepherd/rot mix and I were out in the woods clearing a new home site about 70 feet away the buffs were on the hunt out of the corner of my eye a flash then feathers fly birds take flit dog takes off I'm not sure what I just seen so I take off after the dog through thick woods and ceder thicket at a dead run when I got to my dog she was going crazy I was bent over going backwards when I stood up to my surprise eye to eye with a 90 pound bobcat no weapon thank god he was as scared as I was I could fill his breath on my face he dropped the buff and ran off with dogs chasing bird is still in shock only two visible wounds in wings but I'm sure some internal bruising she won't eat or drink today I cant move people over 50 should not go Rambo my wife didn't think I could move like that any more . Lesson learned a chicken is not worth what could have happened.

You are right! I'm so glad you're okay.

Wow! That makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. My husband asks me to carry a pistol when I'm out with the animals at night. He saw a big cat a couple of years ago, and our neighbors confirmed seeing it as well.

Our indoor kittens are growing fast. I think it's because they spend most of their day sleeping.

WOW! Got quite a chuckle out of your story- but only because you are all right! phew! Hope your bird recovers!

Hi all. I have a question I hope that you can answer for me. I have a hen that is having trouble walking, and I noticed that on her right foot her toes are curled under. She hasn't gone through anything that I know of to hurt it except for possibly jumping from the nesting box to the ground. In the past month she seems to of gone broody on me as she is always in the nesting box, even with other hens eggs. I have made sure that she gets out and gets a drink and goes outside for a while each day, and not just continually sat in the box. I have had her about a year, and she was an older hen when I bought her, but I don't know her exact age. Several months ago I had another hen that I had bought at the same time that started doing this and eventually died. I thought I had hurt her leg when I was teaching them to use the roosting bars at night instead of the nesting boxes. Does anyone know what causes this or what it is and most importantly what to do about it? Any input is appreciated!

Read what you can find about riboflavin deficiency and check your hen's symptoms against what you've read. Without being able to watch her walk, it's hard to know what's going on with her. Feeding Brewer's yeast or cooked liver may help. I had a chick hatched with a curled foot so I fed cooked liver (ground up) for three days along with medicated crumble, and the little guy's foot straightened out. It may be that she has a parasite load that's making it hard for her to get the nutrition she needs from her feed. What was the last time you wormed your flock?

Does anyone on here show their poultry? I hatched some SQ marans and would like to look into it, but have no idea where to start and google is not really helping me out.
Betsy, Scoots and I show, I know there are likely a few others. What exactly are looking for as to where to start?
