Carburetor spray for wasps. wasp and hornet spray too

Recent wet weather after hot dry will spark growth in the potatoes and fruit trees.

Watch out for black widows...we found two in the outside coop. They are really bad this year. Think I lost a healthy pullet to a spider bite in that pen this week. We have killed several bw in the garden.

Thanks for the answer about the potatoes. That makes sense.

We're overrun with fiddle backs here. One of our cats got bit.

Loving all the rain in the end of July but rather confused about what it foretells about the weather changes. Rain in July is odd in itself but we've had over 4 inches already this month and more predicted tonight and tomorrow. The garden is thriving but my birds are standing knee deep in mud. We can't even muck out the pen or put down clean straw because it just keeps raining. Had to pull out the winter muck boots to even go in the pen yesterday. Of course our silly little silkies who don't stay in the pen with everyone else and have the run of the yard, chose to make a nest under the drip of the air conditioner in the mud even though they have multiple dry locations to be ... sigh.

what respiratory problem causes bubbly eyes? captain is now doing that! This poor little roo!

No rain here now or during the last two rain events. Sun is shining bright, don't even think there are clouds right now.

I have found at least six nests in the last couple of weeks they are bad this year and knock on wood only stung once, The offending nest I had was under a bird feeder in front of the house, I was replacing the phone line and ran it up close to them it was the smacking of the tossed roll of wire that really got their attention I dropped the wire and stood as still as I could while at least 20 wasps went crazy 4 feet from me, after several minutes only three or four were still flying around I started inching backwards and as I turned I guess the white of the back of my arm was enough to make one of them charge and it hit like an arrow it really didn't hurt for a couple of minutes while I looked for and found my torch and propane tank, (I was reminded of the line from the movie Scent of a woman when Al Pacino says "I oughta' take a flame thrower to this place!") I was enjoying the thought of getting even, I crept up too about three feet from it took aim and squeezed the handle and *POOF* it went out, I probably looked like an idiot running across my yard with a propane tank in my hand but my second attempt was successful although I do need another bird feeder now.... and an onion or three...

I am trying not to laugh!
I have used a paste of water and baking soda to neutralize stings. I haven't been stung in a long time but when i was a kid I got stung a lot. I loved to play in the pear orchard and the bees love the rotting pears. I finally had my whole arm swell up from a sting in my palm. The Dr. prescribed Benadryl and that worked well.

I had to cull one of my juvie (10 week old) chicks yesterday. I thought he had an non healing injury, so I was culling w/ a view to eating him. When I got as far as removing the insides I found a very strange thing. He was full of tumor type growths, and where his testes were there were to many and the wrong shape. Then when I skinned his feet I found the main tendon on the lame foot was torn in two and the other "good" foot had a dark mushy spot on the tendon in the same place as the other one tore. Any ideas as to what was going on????? There are pics on a thread if anyone is interested in seeing them and offering an idea.

on the sick birds, i gave both captain and dora tylan this afternoon, i was sure dora was on her way out and it was worth a shot, she couldn't even raise her head- so tonite i boot them out of the tub to take a shower and darned if they don't both jump up and hitail it for the dog dish!





dora is still a bit unsteady but amazing!

Does he have any other symptoms like nares? Your Tylan50 shots should help.

Good rainy morning to everyone. I don't remember ever getting as much rain in July as we have this year. And I agree that all this rain is messing with the wasp, spiders, and everything else. Nice to know if the wasp problem gets too bad, we can always call on Elwood for help.

Someone told me to give our chicks some Wazine 17 a couple times a year and not to eat the eggs for a couple of weeks after giving it. Do y'all agree with this? I gave it to them a few weeks ago at age 11 weeks. Now they should start laying in another month or two. So if you can't eat the eggs after giving the medicine, can you collect the eggs and hatch them? At least you wouldn't be wasting them that way.

checking in now that the power is back- that was some big boomers last nite- looks like the neighbor lost his barn- its rolled in a ball

on wazine, when i use it, i feed the eggs back to the chickens, that way they don't go to waste- use wazine then ten days later use safeguard goat wormer, to catch the rest the worms- here is the info i have on my computer:
