***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Fun times checking the mail
Wow, that's a big scorpion! I've seen little tiny ones at the barn, but never one this large.

After the rain stopped, I took a few pictures of the broodies in the new coop. They were dry and content, but they wanted me out, out, out of their space!

That is a really nice place the chickens look very at home

I had a wonderful time at the Stilwell auction Friday night. I had the opportunity to talk with some Okies: some old friends, some new friends. It was good to see lots of teens at the auction. Most seemed interested in the birds or the rabbits.

There were some Polish chicks (Donna's, I think) I wanted just because they were sooooo cute! The lady behind me talked about them with her husband for an hour straight before the auction started, so I didn't bid against her. I bought some chicks to make into capons, and a few juveniles for the same purpose. This is a major shift in my mindset. I didn't have my camera : ( There were some beautiful turkeys (oxymoronic, I know), and several goslings that broke my heart when they called out for Momma. No peafowl. Lots, and lots, and lots of rabbits. There were pedigreed rabbits selling for ten apiece. There were gigantic rabbits that went from three dollars up to about fifteen. I was tempted and actually bid on a lion head rabbit. The bid went three dollars above mine, so I gave up and considered that a close call.

P.S. Don't forget to subscribe to the Labor Day Chicken Gathering thread. People are starting to tell me what they're bringing. It's going to be a lot of fun

Poco that first pic has one of the mingions in it.

I discovered one of my young NN girls carries scaleless!!!! Woo Hoo so at least one girl and one boy, bring on the naked chicks!!!! lol lol lol

That looks like a possible Saipan, or other oriental game, it is unlikely it will come out of that stage they are very stilty birds and look much like that even as adults just a bit heavier.

Son of a gun....she's a shamo. I reached out to someone who bought the game birds at the same flock sell out and they confirmed with the original flock owner. If she stays docile she can stay. If she's too aggressive she's gotta go. She's on bottom of pecking order as far as I can tell.

Kass: Congrats on hatching a scaleless pullet. Put me on the list for naked chickens when you start to have extras : )

Poco that little coop is so cute! Are you going to paint it or finish it?

The body of the coop is redwood. I'm going to leave it as it is. When the broodies hatch their babies, I'll pull up the ramp and keep them up top until the babies are big enough to fly a bit. They will have no trouble on the ramp after they have wings that work.
