***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nanakat,
    Lola, my blue pullet that I got from you at POOPS, is a wild child. She runs around the yard galloping like an ostrich and sometimes jumps straight up in the air. The first time I saw her leap I thought she was trying to catch bugs but I think she is just jumping for joy or is just plum crazy. She is my clown for sure. She has beautiful lacing and is very tall. Samson must be her father. I must get some video of her antics.

MJ, I would love to see a video. One of the young cockerels does something similar I running around the yard. I'm pretty sure that Big Blue is her sire if she has good lacing. He passed it on to most of his chicks. He is from those Garrett eggs I bought in Newcastle back in April 2012. The pen with Samson was later in the season. All those chicks have grown up huge!

there are bantam Ameraucanas, maybe you got a couple of those?

woops--I put the wrong # of months there! Its suppose to be 3 months!!

Im thinking they have to be bantams, bc these little gals are tiny and even looking online -- 10 wk old easter eggers are decent sized compared to my lil ones. Im also wondering if I have actual ameraucanas instead of easter eggers. Mine dont look like all the other easter eggers.... Im gonna have to get the elsuive duo to stand still for a picture. They were hatched by a broody hen and I got them when they were 6 wks old so they arent as outgoing as my other chickens.

as far as i know, Ameraucanas only come in solid colors....blue, black, white etc (other than wheaten and blue wheaten) with slate legs and rose combs (might be pea combs, I never can tell the difference)

easter eggers are usually striped, speckled etc with either single or rose/pea combs. Some one that raises them can chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

I bought 12 EE's early this year at 2 days old and by the time they were 6 weeks, I knew which were roos and which were hens and they were darn near the size of my year old Barred Rocks, so I bet you got yourself some bantams

Where/What is POOPS?!  


So I just wanted to share a quick bit about my favorite chicken, my roo, Mr. Darcy. Ive had this little fellow from around day 2 and he is about 2 1/2 months old now.  Ive been letting my chickens out in the yard in the evening for some good scratchin....and he makes me smile some big smiles!  I had let them out and then would come out and check on them every so often.  And every time I went out to see how they were doing, Mr. Darcy would come running up to see me and would fly up on to my arm.  I love my chickens!  


How big do Easter Eggers or Amercaunas get?  I have two, that look like my Barred Rock chicken when he was only 4 weeks old, and they are close to 4 months old now....

Great story about Mr. Darcy...some just have great personalities.

I have solid color ones with slate colored legs. One is blue and one is black. Im worried that one might be a roo which is depressing bc that will make the 3rd Roo Ive gotten. I started off with only 4 chickens, lost one to a snake and one was a roo, bought 3 more and one was a roo, bought 2 more, and now im worried this one is a roo. The blue one started showing a pink colored comb this last week.... :/

Im kinda excited that they are bantams...maybe I can squeeze one more chicken into the coop.....

can you not have roos? because a blue and a black will make blue, black and splash chicks

no thanks necessary! I love talkin chickens and turkeys...lol. Bantams are a lot like people (I raise OEGB's) seems the smaller they are the fiercer they think they have to be!
If it were me I would make a small coop or tractor just for them.

ETA....if you do have a bantam pullet or if both turn out to be, I am not sure they could handle a full size roo's advances, if you know what I mean.
