One question about incubating. Should the temp read 99.5 on top of the eggs or on top of the egg turner? It's a still air but it has a fan... so I guess technically it's a forced air.
Someone asked if I let the eggs rest for 24-48 hrs... Yes and no. They sat on a table at the post office for 24 hrs until my husband picked them up. Then they sat for about 8 hrs here at the house until I made sure the incubator was all set.
Should I rotate them inside the incubator since there are hot and cold spots? How often if so?
99.5 on top of the *turner. But don't sweat it a whole lot because it's not exact under a mother hen. With the fan there shouldn't be hot and cold spots, I wouldn't rotate them.
Some people DO let the egs sit, I don't unless I can't decide if I'm going to incubate them.
I have eggs at Day 16 in my incubator right now. They were in the incubator within 5 minutes of the mailman handing them to me. Out of 23 eggs, 21 are growing like crazy. If they send you FRESH eggs they'll hatch. My pet peeve is too many sellers sellers do NOT send fresh eggs and they blame the Post Office for rough handling.
