One question about incubating. Should the temp read 99.5 on top of the eggs or on top of the egg turner? It's a still air but it has a fan... so I guess technically it's a forced air.

Someone asked if I let the eggs rest for 24-48 hrs... Yes and no. They sat on a table at the post office for 24 hrs until my husband picked them up. Then they sat for about 8 hrs here at the house until I made sure the incubator was all set.
Should I rotate them inside the incubator since there are hot and cold spots? How often if so?

99.5 on top of the *turner. But don't sweat it a whole lot because it's not exact under a mother hen. With the fan there shouldn't be hot and cold spots, I wouldn't rotate them.
Some people DO let the egs sit, I don't unless I can't decide if I'm going to incubate them.
I have eggs at Day 16 in my incubator right now. They were in the incubator within 5 minutes of the mailman handing them to me. Out of 23 eggs, 21 are growing like crazy. If they send you FRESH eggs they'll hatch. My pet peeve is too many sellers sellers do NOT send fresh eggs and they blame the Post Office for rough handling.

Look at this FACE! I pulled him out of the cage and this guy has the saddest face I've ever seen on a roo. I immediately promised him the sun, the moon, the sky, fermented grain, a whole flock of hens and a bed of DE all to himself! Who could abuse and neglect such a sweet baby?!

Oh that would would be cause for me to get angry as well. Giving you old eggs and saying they are fresh is ridiculous! I can only hope this is a fresh batch. If I only get even just one to hatch though I will be jumping for joy! She was nice enough to give me 4 extra eggs. I'm so excited but hope I do it just right. Give the little things a better chance by doing my "homework" any way. The person who I am borrowing the bator from gave me some of her bantom eggs to hatch for her. I hope I can get some of those to hatch for her. That would be awesome. I am so nervous as to when I should add them. Should I wait or put them in right now? I just started my eggs last night around 6-ish. I would hate to start her eggs then shrink wrap them with the humidity down some. What would you all do? Add the bantom eggs right now or give them one more day? Sorry about all the questions. I just cant find anything on the web to tell me what to do.

I think the reasoning behind allowing shipped eggs to rest may have more to do with possible detached air cells, because I really can't think of a reason to let them sit, otherwise. I let my Isbar eggs rest because the air cells were a mess. It basically allows the air cell to stabilize before the turning begins.I'm no expert, but I read ten tons of stuff when I got those Isbar eggs in that condition.

If you do have detached air cells from shipping, don't give up on the egg. I got one of mine to hatch, and lots of people just toss them as ruined.

Quote: how hard i it to integrate a lone guinea? i do have a couple young ones, being raised by a hen, i could put him in a pen near them, maybe they would accept him??

you are right, you store them point down to give them some settling time and hand turn for a few day, they can hatch
