There were a lot more Ameraucanas this year than I remember from years past. The Black roos were amazing. I also liked the Black Marans hens. The White Silkie that won Best of Breed impressed me a lot too.

I bought 1 Blue Copper Marans pullet chick, 3 weeks old. I was supprized to see chicks for sale and I do need a Blue girl. I brought her home and set up the heat in my brooder. She seemed so lonely and I don't have any other birds that young right now, so I went back to Shawnee, good thing it is not that far. There were no other Blue or Splash pullets (and they were expensive to begin with - Jack laughed when I told him what I paid for one chick), so I bought a RIR to keep the Marans company.
At least he laughed! That was a cutie you were carrying around! What did you think of the eggs in the competition at the Marans table?

Wow Shawnee was amazing guys! Thanks for being patient with my directionally-challenged entrance at lunch... had a great time, got a new Black Ameraucana roo amazingly from the same guy some of my original Ameraucana stock came from! Also three BCM male chicks, crossing my fingers I get a good one to pick from when they grow up! @mjgigax 's boy is settled in nicely for the night, he will go to his new home with @artsyrobin sometime this week!
Rinda,

Sorry we didn't get to meet you guys at the end of the table..at lunch - me and my kids, Cheyenne and Wyatt were at the other end. It was a great lunch though - and had a wonderful time chatting with Kyz, Betsy and Shelbydog.

We had a great time at Shawnee too - although when I say 'we', I mean me... For the kids, it was a long day and not a lot for them to do. Next time, I'll have to make a base camp to park them at or something. They - the kids - did pretty well. Cheyenne's barred rock hen took BB, BV and third in the American Class (Junior) - but I think that she would have been competitive in the open division had we decided to go that way. Wyatt's grey silkie cockerel brought in BV, also Jr. The kids also got 4th and 3rd in showmanship. Not too bad!
Many thanks to Modernman and others that were able to make the Jr show such a success!.

Got to give a shout out to BetsyOK! Picked up several really nice silkies - some paints, some lavenders and a really cool Porcelain roo to give the kids smaller trios to show in 4-H (yeah, and to give me some total eye candy). Cheyenne (daughter) was thrilled to find that one of the paint pullets laid an egg for us last night! So, I totally owe you guys some chicken pictures.

Ksane, So glad you got that showgirl roo! We both ended up being winners on that one. Can't believe you gave him a bath though - you deserved the glare! But, what can he expect??? being the grand poodle of the chicken world!

Its funny, as much as I like naked necks and silkies...I would have thought that showgirls would really float my chicken boat...but so far - not so much. .... Maybe I just haven't met the 'right' one yet. They say there is someone out there for everybody!

Those eggs were the darkest I have ever seen. Bev Davis was there - she is a very well respected Marans breeder - i was too shy to talk to her. What would I say, "Hi, I know who you are."?
