***OKIES in the BYC III ***

couldn't help but laugh at the cornish description- i got my girl Colette from Coral and adore her- totally different than any of the others-

I have come to appreciate cornish thanks to Al but have yet to go down that road and get any... I have always thought of them as the bulldogs of the chicken world...So ugly they are cute...
I was disappointed about no faverolles.
You know I did not even relies until you all mentioned it but I missed that they did not have any faverolles, Did they have any buff brahma other than bantams?
It seems like there were a lot more little birds this year but not as many standard and LF as they have had in the past. Also this year there were not nearly as many birds for sale... Last year they were set up in the middle area where the bleachers are and there were rows and rows of birds for sale... It was not bad though, I did get some lovely LF cochin hens for my flock... They are very nice...

So I bought a bunch of cochin chicks at the auction a couple of months ago that were being sold as LF but as I have found they are bantams... I have 5 black cockerals, 2 black pullets and 2 blue pullets. Since I am really not wanting to keep bantams I would like to sale them. If anyone is interested send me a PM and we can talk about it, I will make you a deal...

There were a lot more Ameraucanas this year than I remember from years past. The Black roos were amazing. I also liked the Black Marans hens. The White Silkie that won Best of Breed impressed me a lot too.

I bought 1 Blue Copper Marans pullet chick, 3 weeks old. I was supprized to see chicks for sale and I do need a Blue girl. I brought her home and set up the heat in my brooder. She seemed so lonely and I don't have any other birds that young right now, so I went back to Shawnee, good thing it is not that far. There were no other Blue or Splash pullets (and they were expensive to begin with - Jack laughed when I told him what I paid for one chick), so I bought a RIR to keep the Marans company.

It was so great to meet everybody and see all the beautiful birds!

I scored a splash maran layer and two show quality blue langshans. Theyre such pretty girls!

It was so nice to meet lots of new people and finally put names and faces together.
Lunch was a lot of fun...wish I had taken pictures of people...but got lots of photos of champions to post on the Heritage threads in the breed section.
BetsyOK, Don Gibson, Bo Garrett, and Carl Jarvis did very well with their birds placing.
Got to visit with several of our old-timers too...Les was there with his daughter, Pepper came by the raffle table, Bo Garrett and his family, Scoots and Jamie in the Junior Division awards.
I purchased two lovely Black Cochin pullets from Larry Dye. The girls were shown in the Junior Show by Larry's son. They are settled in a big cage together in the brooder room until the weather clears.

Got my two girls home safely Thanks again MJ, Wish i could have stayed for lunch but had to get home for Christmas parade my daughter was marching in.

Soooo.....how should I convince Uno this is home since guineas don't like new things. One suggestion was to keep him in a large wire dog crate for 2 weeks in the coop. I'm assuming keeping him locked up in the coop for 2 days with my 21 pullets will not be enough time to condition him that this is home sweet home.

You really need to keep him locked for 2 at least 2 weeks- i had a separate coop and run in the chicken run for ours, but being as he is single, he needs the companionship of the flock

Wow Shawnee was amazing guys! Thanks for being patient with my directionally-challenged entrance at lunch... had a great time, got a new Black Ameraucana roo amazingly from the same guy some of my original Ameraucana stock came from! Also three BCM male chicks, crossing my fingers I get a good one to pick from when they grow up! @mjgigax 's boy is settled in nicely for the night, he will go to his new home with @artsyrobin sometime this week!
