@hotcurltr haven't heard any updates lately, have you ever heard back from the necropsies?
I haven't found out any more. Only what the state vet told me. Nothing abnormal. Toxin he is guessing. They didn't even have any parasites. I have locked them out of the garden spot and haven't had any more get sick or die. My guess is botulism because one of our dogs was put down and a friend buried him for us. We usually dig 4 feet and make sure they are always well covered., But I had noticed that part of the blanket stuck up through the dirt. I was going to re bury him but instead piled on more dirt and covered it with rocks. I think the rain caused the decaying body to go in their noodling mud puddle, but why they all didn't get sick and die I don't know. I'm trying to dry it up and then I'm going to burn the whole area. I wonder what bleach would do it I poured it out all over there. Guess I'll have to do some research. I haven't been on here for over a week until last night. Hubby has been doing to much since his open heart surgery and had a small mini stroke that put him in the hospital. He's never even sick and is always a workaholic. I have an autoimmune disease, but I get along well most of the time. Just get tired. Anyway, when he was in the hospital, I was out in the pasture, and bent a sapling for the goats. One of them jumped up on my back and knocked me off balance. It was in a patch of thorns and I couldn't get up. I yelled and yelled hoping a neighbor would hear me, but no one did, It took me about 40 minutes or so but I crawled to a tree that would hold me. My shoe was still tangled in the thorns so it had to come off. Anyway, geese, chickens, and my donkey all came over to comfort me while I was on the ground. Wouldn't u know it, it is the only place in the pasture not cleared out yet.

My legs aren't strong enough anymore to get me up. and to think I trained horses for a living all my life and could squat to deliver foals. Oh well, there's a reason for everything. I'm just really grateful for my animals, a wonderful husband a place to live and all the other amenities/ My list could go on and on.
Thank you everyone for your condolences and your theory's on what might have happened. You are all great and I feel really humbled.

I do have one big question. Is there anyone who just has chickens and loves them but doesn't show them or even care if they are show quality. All but my roosters(hubby drove over 150 miles to get one of them), came from hatcheries and I did get a few chickens early on from breeders that I still have; I'm very happy with them all, even though, I'm over run with eggs at this time and need to take some to the neighbors again. I gave over 100 eggs away just before Thanksgiving. The cold weather hasn't seemed to bother them. I even have two broody, so I guess Ill give them some eggs. I always feel bad if I don't when they want to be mamas
I'm still missing Little Britches, and just got her buried the day before yesterday. Alex, still calls for her and Dewey seems to be missing her too. And yes, Alex is now going out with the other geese, but he sure is shunning me.

ooooh at all that eye candy you Rinda! Nice variety of birds!
:) Thank you! I am very pleased with the breeds I have chosen for next year and how they are growing up. Now I just have to get 5 more pens built- yikes!

Ooooooooo! Rinda!! Love the photos! LOVE your beautiful birds! I must have some SFH as soon as you start breeding them! I just love your breeds! Thank you for sharing! As far as breeder list from the show I won't be needing it. I will wait when I don't have to call each on the list to ask what they breed. Lol!
LOL the SFH were a total whim, got them when I ordered my barnevelder babies since he had a few SFH hatch at the same time, and got a perfect quad so of course I have to breed them!

Picture after picture of beautiful birds! - saw so many great birds at Shawnee but the Black Ameraucana roos are the first to come to my mind for their shine.
Oh I know it, it's almost hard to believe they are solid black because they just reflect and shine so much!

I LOVE those Jubilee Orpingtons!

I have a BO that I adore!

They are amazing! Sadly I lost the boy of the trio just two weeks after I bought them, his leg got caught under the pen when we were moving the pen around and he just never quite recovered. In the market for a Jubilee Orp rooster young or old to go with them if anyone has some...

I think there are a lot of us who don't breed to SOP or show qualities. I personally have absolutely no interest in showing or breeding to SOP, I breed to WKL (what Kassaundra loves)

Yep- i like that! My birds keep me busy, helps my blood pressure and are entertaining! I think buying from breeders is important though, because you are more likely to get the breed temperment you expect....

I just got notice my eggs for my broody have shipped- poor Leah lost her first chick a few years ago, we found him, looks like something skinned him good, hubby brought him to me, but there wasn't much i could do- anyway, Leah has been at the perimeter of the flock since then, just not part of the flock and finally went broody- won't let anyone lay in her box either, so i decided to get her some cochin eggs, but none could be found so a friend is sending me some from her flock, a few delawares, and a cross of Blue Andalsion and Orp, and a couple dottes crossed with Blue- here are the birds their coming from- hope she can handle more than a few, i may end up putting a few in the bator...

The parents of the mixes eggs on the way-
