Sorry about all you folks feeling sick!

Here are some ugly duckling chick pics...best one is the white chick - it made a great poo! These are the survivors from the silkie hatch. I am pretty sure that my incubator was running cold - resulting in later hatches and weaker chicks. It certainly didn't help anything! Anyway, these guys are going strong and just got moved into the big brooder out in the garage.

Then, the three heifers. The most white one still has blue eyes. They've become darker though - so are likely changing. Her little half brother - was the one born in the snow storm, he is now gone back to being a 'wild' cow and is resting nicely behind and to the left of them.

Here he is - we've named him Desperado. He is already looking like a bull at only 2 weeks old!

Chickens didn't want to play with me today, so here's one of my hounds getting some sunshine. Chickens routinely bully him away from his food dish and eat his kibble. Some guard dog.

I'm sorry so many of you are under the weather. It is a bummer anytime but especially during the Holiday Seasons. I just love seeing all the new pictures. I should try to take some, but all I have is my phone. I loaned out my digital camera and it was never returned before they moved. Anyway, I really enjoy getting on here with all of you chipper people. I've been so shy, especially since my first post on the duck forum was asking how to butcher and dress out ducks. Wrong thing to do. I was very politely told that there is a meat forum that I could get my answers. I was really afraid I'd offend someone after that, so if I offend anyone, it's the way I word things or just being totally ignorant on a subject. My intention is always love for you and your animals.

Still haven't received any update from the state on the ducks, so I guess I'll call tomorrow.
I have another question that will show my ignorance. Can you put pullet eggs under a broody chicken? I have two that are broody now and have let them set on golf balls a few days to make sure they're not going to change their minds. Anyway, I have some Americauna (sp) pullets that are laying green eggs and thought I like to see what they produce. They've been running with my Buff Orp roo so, I was thinking of using some of them with others.The pullets are 6 or 7 months. I can't remember. Pretty sure they are seven months. Even though the eggs are smaller I thought it wouldn't matter once they started growing since, genetics would take over. Am I wrong? Will they hatch and be stunted always?

For best viability and stronger chicks most people recommend waiting for the first 2 weeks worth of eggs before you start setting. If you really just want to see if they hatch and don't mind if they don't you can go ahead and set them. Have you checked them yet for fertility? If you don't know how to do that, crack one open and look for either a white dot on the yolk or a white dot with a white ring (bullseye shape). The bullseye means FERTILE and you are good to go!

Oh! I love them all - chicks and calves! I used to feed deacon calves for my Dad.

I went to the doctor yesterday because my stomach has been cramping since Saturday.. I was tested and the doctor did not find any viruses or ulcers, so I am on Nexium and an anti-cramping meds for my stomach...

I just toughed it out the last two times. My doctor is very conservative with antibiotics and probably would not have given me any unless they found bacteria in a culture..Which is totally okay with me, because of past health problems I have had to take quite a few antibiotics and have been concerned about becoming tolerant to them.

Feeling a little better today it has moved to my chest lungs feel tight but at least it out of my head. hope you feel better soon too.

I don't think that is a Partridge chick i have some partridge and they are darker it may be it is another porcelain perhaps.

My 'partridge' was nowhere as dark as yours as a chick. It was basically a creamy white but with light lavender stripes going down. It was from either the paint pen or the b/b/s pen from the markings on the eggs. I was thinking partridge because of the 'barring' on its wing feathers. I kept hoping for lavender - but no lavender eggs were put into the hatcher that that chick came out of. We'll see - I know that (like longhorns) under some genetic circumstances - color can be like a box of chocolates.
