***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm finally moved to my 10 acres in Marlow. I got a rooster. He won't stop crowing! He started at about 4am and keeps it up all day. We have a city light in the backyard. I think that's confusing him. We put cardboard up in the window and door of the coop but it didn't seem to help much. I might try putting him in something small so he can't stretch out to crow, but that seems cruel. Does anybody have any ideas to keep him from crowing until dawn? I don't mind it during the day but 4am is too early!

Congrats on the move!

Roosters crowing early in the morning is kinda what they do

Mine crow off and on all night because they can also see our security light.....

But I rekon you can try using a beak cover. If they can`t open their mouth, I doubt if they can crow.

You'll get used to it, really. I think I have around 30 roosters and I barely hear the crowing except to notice how cool it sounds. Mine crow off and on all night and start in about 3-4 AM for the day.

Thanks! So far we love it out here. I think a beak cover is kind of overkill. LOL
I guess I'll get used to it.

A fan in your bedroom should create enough background white noise that you don't notice as much.

Yeah it doesn't bother me as much as I would have thought. I think I'll start bugging hubby to put up the chicken sauna. It's insulated so it should muffle the sound more. My last rooster was more considerate. :)

@NotSuperWoman I did it again. There are people on this forum who can verify that I'm terrible with dates and events, and Shelbydog can vouch for that. We're not going to a show this Saturday in Muskogee... we're going to an auction on Jan 11 in Nowata. Derp derp.

You should go with us! That'll give you more time to plan for it.
