***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My barred mix hen that I got at Drumright swap a few months ago is the only one who ventured the furthest from the coop today. She started laying for me recently (lays a nice smooth dark brown egg). She went through a light molt on me but is looking super sharp now. I'm very happy with my purchase of her. I kinda think she might be a broody based on her time spent in nesting box. She's not a pop it out and go girl. She fills up the nest box.

I got 5 eggs the other day. I got 2-3 marans girls laying now. Got 3 chocolate eggs today, I know 2 were laid today but unsure of the 3rd b/c I only found it after a marans mix pullets uncovered the bedding it was hiding under. Got some pullets checking out the nest boxes.

I put new shavings in the coop today...you would have thought I put hot lava on the ground. They were jumping on the slats on the walls and huddled in the corners.

Finally getting the hang of Photoshop. That program has been so difficult to learn! Actually, this was my last piece in it--

So I'm certainly improving!

its worth the time involved- i use it for prepping photos for pet portraits, and it really is a useful tool

have moved a few of the bantams in for the next few days- dragon and the boys are in the spare bedroom for a few days, i really need to work on those coops in the warmer weather

My mom wants marans really badly.

Quote: I think it probably is worth the time, now that I can actually do it! LOL!

I have a coop that I plan on winter-prepping tomorrow so I can put a few girls in it. My two roos are fighting but I'm so attached to them that I am just getting another coop and relocating one with his girls so they will be okay.

The things one will do for chickens! LOL!

Well, are all of u thawed out after giving your fluffy, fuzzy butts and others their warm food? I ended up adding some of New Years Day, black eyed peas to their warm rice, scrambled egg and pecans. They actually didn't eat all of it which is unusual. I wonder if I added too much red pepper and chili powder. I really get carried away sometimes and really don't know how much to give them. Then again, I did make a lot, because I wanted to make sure the ducks and geese got some.

Ha, ha, thanks everyone. I'm glad some of you got a good laugh, like hubby.

Nanakat, thank you for the input, too. Won't that hurt him emotionally? Will it frighten all the others if I carry a cane and chase him away? And yes, I do know they mate for life. I do not have another goose. I now have more ganders and need to find another goose or two. (Notice how I cleverly said that. Didn't know what the plural for a goose is). I know I have to keep him from getting aggressive. I all ready have a gander that is, and he isn't the top of the hierarchy either. I will work on finding him a mate. Hubby will really love feeding more. Ha Ha.
Anyway, seriously. Thank you everyone, including Artsyrobin. His only alternative. Hmm, don't know how to take that. Just kidding.

Kyzmette, I love your story about Bumpers. I keep telling everyone, that animals have certain human emotions, and it's not just instinct and I think love is one of them. I know for sure jealousy is one of them.
Chickenfan4life, I don't want to ignore you. I love your posts and and think You are extremely talented.
I'd like to comment on everyone, but with such an active bunch it would take all night.

What breed of goose is he? I have a friend with geese and I can see if she has a female to sale. I think hers are brown chinese...I'll have to double check that.

Definitely add me to the 'weird' group. But then most people here have that one figured out already. As I got older I realized it was severe introversion, which I've come to accept and appreciate. I'm literally never bored, I don't even understand the feeling when people talk about being 'bored'. Only extroverts get bored, introverts have the best of the whole world right inside their own heads. People always think I'm stuck-up (heard that all my life) or mad, abrupt or don't want to talk to them. Never true, it's just that my head is filled with so many different things to think about that I don't always even see other people.
There were LF Favs at the auction?! Good thing I didn't go or I'd have come home with birds with no place to put them :-D
You are one of the friendliest people I have met. Nothing wrong with enjoying your own company.

He is a pomeranian(spelling wasn't my best subject). Also known as the saddleback. I do have two chinese ganders w/o mates. At least I think they're chinese,. I had hubby pick up two goslings at Atwoods when Little Britches was still in the house, healing w/ her leg, so she would have company. They could be African. I can't tell them apart. I would be interested for them anyway. And it really doesn't matter. My geese are all mixed up. They chose mates of other breeds. Even those I bought in pairs.. Go figure.
