***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Chickenfan4life, sorry you are under the weather....I'm hatching Bantam Delaware, LF Columbian Wyandotte, Birchen Wyandotte, and a few Cochin/Wyandotte cross. The cross birds make great layer and broody hens
Ah, thanks. Boy, this is not a fun cold to have. I never knew I could cough so much...

And, those all sound delightful! How I'd love to get some. Alas, my mom is putting her foot down now, with the flock we have here. She says she'll make an exception for breeding stock every so often. D:

That is actually a good thing. We all joke about chicken math, but really you don't want more chickens then you have space (housing), room (yard or run), or ability to care for properly. Too many is to many and just takes the fun out of it.

It's a balmy 20 degrees here. That's fourteen degrees higher than this morning. Hope everyone is staying warm.

I'm going to be ordering chicks from Ideal Poultry on Wednesday this week (January 8th). I'm getting male chicks for a capon clinic to be held here in Haskell on March 16th (the Sunday before Spring Break). The chicks need to be the same age, otherwise I'd have looked around for some hatching help. If you're interested in learning how to caponize, send me a PM.

I will be asking the post office in Muskogee to hold them so I can open the box in the presence of a postal employee. The box would go through Muskogee for sorting and then on to Haskell for sorting and delivery, so this way I save the little guys a day and a half travel and bumpy jeep ride (Our guy drives a jeep... cool to look at, but he must have back aches all the time).

So, if you were thinking of ordering from Ideal Poultry this month to get chicks the last week of January or the first week of February, send me a PM. There won't be shipping charges from Texas, but there will be boxing charges if the order is below 100 chicks or if each quarter contains more than one breed. Small order charges (seven dollars) apply if the box contains less than 100 chicks total. They charge a dollar if you order fewer than 25 of any particular breed. I'll be getting NN, BR, and BuffRock chicks to fill half a box. That leaves two quarters empty (25 chicks per quarter box). Let me know if you'd like to join this order. I'd be able to bring the chicks to a half-way point over spring break (March 17 - 21).

My group went into the yard for about 30 seconds today, I liked the tracks they made.
When I see chicken tracks I always wonder what they are trying to tell me... I have been a special ed teacher way too long...

Good grief! That makes me a triple weirdo!
I have llamas so I guess that make me a quadruplet weirdo... hehehe!

I am thinking about ordering from Purely Poultry around the same time... They have LF cochins and I am wanting to order some, blue, black, splash, and white.. If anyone else is interested let me know. I will post again closer to the time I plan to order..

I totally agree. unfortunately I don't always do as I should. By the way Kassaundra, did u see the NN for sale in Checotah? They want to sell all for $5.00 each, but you have to take them all, unless it's a rooster. I was going to call, but there is no way I can buy over 30 more chickens. Especially, this time of year.

Since I haven't figured out how to do more than one quote yet, I'll respond by name. How would any of you like to be weird and stupid?

True5, I am so sorry about your hen. I know how hard it is to stand by helplessly and watch one that doesn't respond to anything u do.
ChickenFan4Life, sorry you're under the weather. And I think your sketch is wonderful. My stuff never looks as good to me as it does to others. You dun yourself proud, girl.

NanaKat, I ignored Huey today, even though he didn't seem to notice as he followed me all over and was constantly underfoot. I felt bad for him but definately agree with u about getting him under control. He didn't go after hubby today, which is a good thing. I'd be interested in one of your mixes. What I really want is a showgirl because I think they are so darn cute. But I don't have any business with just an ornament. I don't have any wyandotts, so I don't know much about them. I just don't want any more white chickens as they don't seem to do as well here. Most of my predator problem is from the air. I started out with Light Brahmas and only have one left, and she hatched by one of mine last January. I have a white hen of indiscriminate breeding, with one eye and a very small game hen. It's probably better if I just count my blessings with them. I would like to find some speckled sussex , but I do like the darker wyandotts(spelling may not be correct. Refer to comment above.)

I want to respond to more by can't right now. By everyone.
