Okay a few more pictures. I took photos of my Wyandotte cock birds to show Carl to advise me on pens. With his help, pens will be set as soon as the weather settles. Blue Birchen, Black Birchen and Blue Columbian are not color varieties yet recognized by the American Poultry Association so they are considered project pens. But the Columbian, Blue, Black and White are recognized colors.
Can you tell I really like Wyandotte?

The Blue Birchen cock will go over Black Birchen hens to make both Blue and Black Birchen offspring. His yellow legs should help clean up the legs on the offspring.



This Blue Columbian has great type (shape, color comb, leg) and will go over Columbian hens to make Blue Columbian and Columbian offspring.


Of these three Black Birchen, the Cock on the back right will be selected to go over Black and Blue hens out of my original Columbian cock to produce Black and Blue females to go under the Blue Birchen cock in late fall or next spring


This Columbian Cock will go in a pen over any of Beau's daughters, be they Black, Columbian, BCW or Blue. He has great type, a really nice comb and tail....a gentle giant with the girls too.



Here is Beau, the original cock Columbian Wyandotte with a few of the original hens and some of his daughters. The pristine white/is a daughter....she is gorgeous! The bantam Cochin is one of two being raised by a Wyandotte hen.

Dottie is a Columbian Wyandotte...no feathers on her legs. The chickens in the flock photo are Columbian Wyandotte, Birchen Wyandotte, Blue Wyandotte, Black Wyandotte, Blue Cochin and my Cochin/Wyandotte cross breed. They were out free ranging all the way from the road back to the equipment parked behind the garden. Yet, they come running if the call goes out "She has a bucket!".

That explains the shape, those badonkadonks I had mistaken for Brahma!!! I had one CW roo, he was hatchery stock and he was so mean, we rehomed him to a family who was looking to teach their dogs not to mess with the chickens! So his kick-butt attitude actually saved him from the freezer

!

Yes, the "BASKET" cry goes up at my coop, and by the time I get their, there are 27 birds wedged by the gate!!!

We need to do a better job of introducing ourselves at auctions and shows by wearing a BYC button or something.....maybe a white colored arm band with BYC in black or blue letters....just thinking out loud.

Also, EddieOkie...what you are doing is the best way to experiment with chickens. By enjoying diverse breeds, be they hatchery or auction finds, you can determine what you like or don't like. Then you can invest in good breeders from what you really like.

I think arm bands would be cool

I think the PETA hit the nail on the head. Some neighbors got onto us for butchering poultry (when I helped the neighbors butcher, my first ever time, too. Such a learning experience! :"D) they said it was cruel. Do they have any idea?
