So sorry! I have been terrified of coyotes discover an easy meal here. We are on the edge of town and hear them a lot in the Spring. Hopefully you can or did catch the perp.

Starting to worry about my hatch. Have 29 eggs that looked good at lockdown. Had one hatch this morning and two are zipping but no other pips and I just hit the end of day 21. The three that are zipping are mine none of the shipped eggs.

Robyn, yes, trim the lower beak since it slides in under the top beak. They align better if both are trimmed. Nice Cochins!

Definitely show no mercy! Skunks, raccoons, possum, coyotes...all are humanely killed and fed to the buzzards in the back 40. State statures support you in protecting your flock from those as well as owls and hawks.
Speaking of hawk... Robin was just asking me if I had many predators and I said no because since we put up a fence we haven't. Then she asked about hawks. I never had any but the neighbor kid had. Well, Robin, right after you left there was a hawk in the tree that is just over yonder (too close for comfort!). My husband spotted it and tried to shoot it... and sadly missed. After he shot there was another that flew off behind it! Those dad gum things better stay away!!!

I went through boxes and found some cd's and placed them randomly in the back yard. Do they need to be tied to a string and dangled because I just pretty much placed them in random places that would catch the sun or reflect light. HAHA Hubby was against putting things like that around the back yard before but after seeing two hawks he was asking if I needed to put out more!

Secretly he likes my chickens. Especially when they chase off the tweety birds in the back yard. He thinks that's funny.

just got back from visiting True5, she has some wonderful birds, someone really needs to take that beautiful buff roo of hers, i am positive the other is a girl, so youd have a great pair!

Look at this darlig that came home with me, rode my shoulder all the way home

I was so glad we got to visit a bit! Thank you, my husband says that I baby the birds too much. ;) I am SO happy that you have her! And especially since she will have a friend!!! I was so worried but now I feel at ease. Thank you!

Cream Legbar babies!!!! Cute chipmunk girl, grayish boy and brownish boy. Will be needing to find a home for them (except girl). So if you know of anyone...
They are SO sweet!!!!

Edit: I was going to say:
On day 20 on my 26 eggs of Light Sussex, SFH and Olive eggers. Only 6 OE and already 4 have been peeping and piped. Not one of the other breeds have done this. Must be a super breed or something... Now to wait to see what happens with this batch. It's a different incubator (still a Styrofoam but not a little giant) and a different thermometer.

What happened here? I'm so confused. These are our eggs from our four girls. From left to right we have a jersey giant, black sex link, white leghorn and a barred rock. The top row contains their normal eggs (from earlier this week) the bottom are their eggs from today. Is this normal?

We have three silkie hens around 23 weeks old, but they didn't have access to the nesting box (it's too high) so I don't think this would be one of their first eggs. Any advice?

Heard an owl outside one night, John took the gun out with a laser sight and the owl was on our tower, but took off. He then managed to get a hen a couple of days later. Have to watch the trees now, saw a chicken hawk down the road also. Also hear coyotes in the distance, but have a lot of coyote hunters around here. We hear the owls off in the distance now.

It's early.

Typically most things show up and are not consigned ahead of time.

For the March sale we usually average 100-150 sheep and goats, 50 + head of different cattle, llamas, alpacas, mini horses, and mini donkeys. 100-200 lots of warm room animals. 400-500 lots of poultry.

What are you interested in seeing? I can let you know if I hear of someone bring it.

I need to sort through what I'm going to take, but planning on some grey call ducks, Spaulding peafowl, trio of WCB polish, naked necks, and various fancy pigeons.

I may take some mandarins, more call ducks, Egyptian geese, laying hens, some old English, bantam Cochins, and maybe some modern game bantams. I just need to look at what all I have left and will be breeding from this year.
Sent you a PM.. Very interested in a female Dexter..

I just got a possum out of the coop. What do I do with it?
Sorry, but I kill them if I find them any where near my birds..

Remember, any rehomed predator is now somebody else's predator.
So very true..

Be patient, some take more time then others..

I have had this happen.. Temperature, diet, etc. can cause this..

Hope you get the predators..

The toes ended up correcting themselves on the little boy.

He is a live wire in the bator! Of course he has the normal baby chick narcolepsy (cracks me up!) but doing great! The other two finally came out into the world. I have two boys and one girl! Yay! Now to just get that second girl... Rinda I will be giving you a shout for one of your girl chicks sometime soon.

I'm really excited! The last two are still wet and fumbling around but I am optimistic and know they will do great. Happy to have such a beautiful well bred chick to add to my flock! Oh, she's going to be SO spoiled!

I really truly believe it pays off to get your chicks/eggs from breeders instead of hatcheries! Now for my last bunch... We will see how things go with it...

Up for grabs: ****Two Cochin cockerels (only 100% one is a boy) trying to get $10 each (what we gave for them)

Reminds me of what is going on around here lately.... something also about love thine enemies.... grey tabby cat - VERY likely the same one I've chased off of my porch (and away from my cats) over the last year or so.... shows up last weekend with several patches of skin torn off of its back. Well, that changed every thing... I didn't chase it off, and it actually talked to me. My cats are not getting the whole compassion thing, so I think they are a bit mad that I am allowing this cat to stay and eat better food than they do. I wasn't able to catch it, but it was getting around ok. Howver, this morning saw that under the neck where I suspected more bites is now swelling. Went an bought a trap so to catch and take for a vet to look at. Don't know what will become of it, and cant pay for much. But also know I cant let it suffer. I did catch it. As I was putting my winter coat onto the trap to keep it secure and comfortable tonight, it actually talked to me again. This is NOT a cat that has been wild all of its life. Some one once owned it, and now it is only getting kind treatment because it was nearly killed.

I know this is a cat and not a chicken, but I also know that you guys also get my anger and sadness about how this guy has ended up.
That is one of the reasons I get so mad when people don't spay and nueter. I'm actually more of a cat person than dog,but with 6 big dogs I can only keep my two girls. We've been feeding a wild tom for almost a year now, and just got to where we could pet him. We were planning on catching him and getting him nuetered, but when we came home from the Dr. today, he was in the yard killed by the dogs.

They don't bother my two, but they know they live here and are paart of the pack, but I never trust them when we aren't home and keep them locked up. Good for u. We need more people in this world that give a darn.

Or Cathiesue could put up a found poster like this:

I was told that this isn't a joke. It was in one of those programs, I can't remember which, supposedly that is why the phone # is blacked out. They said it was an actual poster, buy maybe someone else put it up as a joke to whom evers # is on it?

I was wondering that myself. I've had it happen before. I've even had two"fart" eggs over the last year.
