How did they send them priority?! My understanding is legally live animals are required to ship Express. I've ordered from Meyer before and they came promptly, I think 3 days total in shipping. Yours SHOULD be OK. Make sure you open the box AT the post office (take clippers or something to cut the tape and ties) so if there are losses the PO can document them. Meyer will credit you for any lost in transit (it requires your order again to make a full shipment but at least it's not a complete loss).

This is little hormonal boy. He has QUITE the personality as you can tell. He's a Cream Legbar X White Leghorn. Crowed the first time Saturday and just turned 4 weeks old yesterday. Precocious! These little dudes and dudettes just went to the outside brooder for the first time today. Needless to say they are NOT enjoying themselves with the wind and the cold.

Thanks, I hope they are all okay because I really don't want to order again.

I have a Silkie (6 months old) who has been fine until today. Yesterday I checked out her feet because, well, everyone else does, and they looked looked totally fine - but she fought me some as I turned her on her back. Today she is limping badly. Her feet still look fine - is it possible I hurt a joint or something? She is eating fine and drinking fine. I just moved them to a larger coop, but it has the same bedding - just more room. Any suggestions??

Luckily the Pied is my favorite so he gets handled quite regularly and all I had to do was open the door to the pen and he walked right in there to get back to his ladies. Can't wait for pied chicks in a few months.

Jaudon77, I love Blue Marans too. I have a beautiful Blue Copper roo and a Splash pullet who has been laying very well 5to 6 eggs a week, since she started last month. Yesterday 9 of their chicks hatched!

My husband would think he surely lost his way home if he got here and only saw 20 chickens, I had twice that before I was even a week into this hobby

I was going to have 1 pen with a little roo and 3 or 4 hens.

Lol! When we started he set "rules". I think I broke every one of them. It was, only 8 hens one roo. No babies, no incubating, only hens that were already laying. Basic breeds because the more rare the more expensive and we only need basic good egg layers. So here I am! Incubating, with 20+ chicks and a few juveniles, one hen that is laying right now (Darling is egg laying age but still hasn't layed yet.), my breeds include some rare breeds and heritage. When all my chicks are grown and laying the number in the coop will be 20+. Oh, and no more than 8 hens 1 roo because he was NOT going to build another coop! Well, we just got more material for another coop.

I appreciate the offer but I don't think I will be breeding. I try to keep my number of boys down to two. It's hard because I know she would give some pretty babies!

My theory for Chicken math, is I never accomplished counting let alone math. I have no idea how many chickens I have. But its a lot! I have 7 pens, 2 brooders and 3 incubators. And right now everything is packed. I am quite proud of myself for selling 8 chicks at the newcastle auction and I am selling 8 ee chicks tomorrow! Now...I may or may not have 21 eggs hatching in 3 days, and another 100+ cooking.

Originally...I didn't even want chickens. My husband begged me for 2 years and then just started building a coop. I figured he was gonna get them anyway so decided to do some research and make sure we got the right breeds for laying and eating and that was it. 4-5 hens and no roos was my rule. I blame BYC... way to informative.... Now look at me, I'm out of control, like the meth-head sitting in the pharmacy section of walmart grinding up cold medicine...just hanging out on BYC...feeding my addiction.

I did a count on eggs in the incubator by breed pen..shouldn't count your eggs before they hatch, but I was checking on pen fertility....112 plus 16 under hens...some of those are hatching today.

According to chicken math...you only count the layers....so I have 35....but that can be adjusted because Bantam hens count 1/2.
Roosters don't count in chicken math. Neither do cockerels since most of those will go in the freezer.
Baby chicks and pullets don't count either because they have not yet reached full potential.
Someone told me they don't count if it doesn't have a name....a good reason for giving each a number instead.

Now actual head count according to the feed bill...72 large fowl, 41 Bantam and just 37 chicks and counting.

And on the Turkey Front...I got my very first Turkey egg today from my very first turkey! Any guesses as to where that egg will be going?

Well I really thought it would be. You should have seen us catching the other peafowl when the wind blew their building over!! They haven't been handled much at all and were bought 2yrs old and up and wild as they come when I bought them. It was very interesting herding each one into a closed barn and trapping them in a corner and praying they didn't jump and fly over your head just to repeat the process, but we eventually caught them all even though we got beat by their 6 foot wingspan many times. They are very strong!!

I am glad all you pea babies are home. I lost a male several years ago and would hate to lose either of my peafowl.

Yeah well I think that is how most of have started. I on the other hand never set a limit when I first got into chickens I just bought a bunch of chicks from Atwoods and kind of figured it out from there. My only limit is self imposed due to making sure I have enough money to feed, care and provide shelter for them.

If you change your mind about a rooster let me know I have a couple of very nice ones I would not mind parting with and cochin roosters are not like other roos they are gentle giants, for sure.

Dang Katherine now I am going to have to go out there and count everyone.. I do know I have 15 bourbon red turkeys, 2 geese and 2 peafowl. Of the chickens I don't have a clue... Not sure I want to change that..

Hey chicken math sounds just like rabbit math. I raise show rabbits and have often calculated my herd according to your chicken math. Too funny

It can be applied to most any animals, except cats and then they call you a horder...

I ordered 16 babies from Meyer and was expecting them at latest on Wed (they hatched Mon).

I tracked the package this morning......they sent them 3 DAY PRIORITY.

They won't be here until THURSDAY

When I ordered my other batches through MM they were here within 48 hours. What is Meyer thinking?

My PO Master is awesome and knows they are coming, and I am well prepared for them (quick chick and feed, and basic meds).

4 days just seems like a LONG time for my poor little ones!!! Anyone else had luck with long shipments?

I only order through Meyers once and did not have the best experience. Welp and Purely Poultry have been the best for the birds I have ordered in the past.

I have said this before but it bears repeating. People would be more understanding if I had a drug addiction then they are to a chicken addiction. They just don't get it.. Which is good because that leave more chickens for us...

Be sure to open the package at the post office with your postmaster and take pictures to verify the chicks are alive....and any that died. You will need that for either replacement or reimbursement.
