Well I am a reformed chicken hater. I had a bad experience with an aggressive rooster chasing me when I was little and I fell in my grandparents barnyard after that i thought all chickens were mean and stunk. Well I have learned that I was so wrong and am planning my first coop. My pair are the sweetest things and don't smell a bit. I see a chicken addiction coming on.

Some pictures of the birds hubby brought home from auction:
Those SFH are awesome! I am slowly being won over by the NN, they are like the pugs of the chicken world, so ugly they are cute!!!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am just so upset for those birds, and more upset that I am the cause for the suffering

. This will be my first and final order from Meyer regardless of the outcome. I have been quite happy with MM for my other birds but just wanted some breeds that MM didn't carry. I will probably continue to use MM for meat birds but plan to get breeder quality for future layers and breeding birds!

I had a the same experience with both standard and bantam chickens. I gave the standard another chance and am so glad I did. Bantams aren't right for us. There are many on BYC that adore theirs and have friendly birds, but I sure never met one!!!!

Love all the pictures! Rinda, the one of the little boy chick checking out his "man parts" was hilarious lol Typical male!

I picked up a bunch of Serama pairs for @artsyrobin and I today from June. I love her birds!!! I got a special needs pair each of us plus a few other pairs who are just perfect, they're the sweetest little birds. I also got the cutest little 10 oz "Henlet" for my Serama boy, Channing. He just loves her, it's adorable. He hasn't tried to breed her, just wants to feed her. He'll forage around on the carpet with her for a while here in the bedroom, then he hops up on my lap to tell me he still loves his Big Hen :)
Here's her and one of the 2 of them.

Beautiful Blue SFH...I want, I want, Currently hatching some of those beauties and they will have a pen build this spring. Don't you want to sell her to me?

HA I have to hatch and recoup costs from her first- hubby really paid too much for the trio IMO but I wasn't there to stop him.

Adorable!

My theory for Chicken math, is I never accomplished counting let alone math. I have no idea how many chickens I have. But its a lot! I have 7 pens, 2 brooders and 3 incubators. And right now everything is packed. I am quite proud of myself for selling 8 chicks at the newcastle auction and I am selling 8 ee chicks tomorrow! Now...I may or may not have 21 eggs hatching in 3 days, and another 100+ cooking.

Originally...I didn't even want chickens. My husband begged me for 2 years and then just started building a coop. I figured he was gonna get them anyway so decided to do some research and make sure we got the right breeds for laying and eating and that was it. 4-5 hens and no roos was my rule. I blame BYC... way to informative.... Now look at me, I'm out of control, like the meth-head sitting in the pharmacy section of walmart grinding up cold medicine...just hanging out on BYC...feeding my addiction.

You pegged the nail on the head! I started out with just basic breeds. 4 of them. Then my husband says, go research chickens so you know how to take care of them. So here I am! Chicken obsession just doesn't describe it!
I have said this before but it bears repeating. People would be more understanding if I had a drug addiction then they are to a chicken addiction. They just don't get it.. Which is good because that leave more chickens for us...

Amen!!!!

Rinda, when I saw those at the auction I thought I just HAD to have them. Glad the "guy in the orange shirt" got them!

They sure are pretty!

@TaraBellaBirds I ordered my first chicks from Meyers and got healthy happy, beautiful chicks. I think out of 25 ordered (27 shipped) one was doa and one died shortly after, everyone else hit the ground running and never stopped.

I should be getting some eggs in the mail sometime tomorrow or the day after. I was wondering if anyone has or knows of where I can get some SFH eggs at the last minute. I would like to put some in with these eggs to hatch. :jumpy  Would like crested and non crested but I wont complain. ;)

Ask Cathiesue about SFH eggs.
