Thanks Diana for looking out for olive eggers for me. I've got a couple that hatched from eggs last month and I got the ingredients to make my own now.
I want Kass's eggs, and for sure one of her Roos.. I like the looks of them. I did bid on a showgirl at the auction and thiought I had it, but missed the other bid or the guy missed me. I guess it's not to be.. I'll just wait for a special one like Kasss'. Are the showgirl roos and pullets steile. I wouldn' think so since they are just like crossing any other chickens, but someone asked me and I said no. But I shouldn't ahve, because I don't really know.- on the "old" chick![]()
Now you have posted so many cute NN chicks picsthat I am helpless to resist and I need, I say NEED, to hatch some of my own.
Anybody have NN eggs?
Welcome to the amazing world of chicken addiction!! Hi my name is Rebecca and I have up-teen chickens and other poultry...Chicken math has got the best of me. I now have 50 chicks in brooders and 34 eggs in the incubator. I have been building coops/pens like crazy...![]()
I promise not to wear bells but I will be there! Well I may wear bells....Next Newcastle auction is April 5th
Wow, this is an incredibly active thread! Which is good, I'm going to learn a lot!
I live in town, so am limited to only eleven chickens and no roosters. Some of you have really impressive flocks!
My chicks are growing like crazy. I figured I'd lose some, but all thirteen are thriving (yes I'm already over my numbers lol). Some are bound to be boys though. I'd love some pro advice when the time comes to turn some into dinner...
Good news, I am nearly finished with my chicken tractor/coop. Chicken wire sucks! Yes, I had already bought chicken wire before reading the recommendation to use hardware cloth. But, it's really to keep the chickens in, not much in the way of predators in my backyard, since I'm chain linked too, to keep the dogs in. The dogs have lost interest in the chicks, thankfully! So all that is left now is to put the roof on and tie off one more section of chicken wire. I'll post pics once I'm able. It's unique, made out of conduit and plywood. Super lightweight so I can handle moving it myself.
Nice to meet you all!

Hi I'm new here and we are NE of OKC, in Arcadia. We picked up some 5 week old chicks yesterday. And the cherry eager had 2 balls of impacted yuck on her rear claws. She fussed a bit, but with warm water I managed to get them off. She still doesn't want to walk. Any suggestions? I am a sucker, but my 5 year old son really wanted her. (Because we don't have enough chicks)
We started with 4 buff orpington last spring for my seven year old daughter. Then were given 2 barred rocks. 3 hens remain. So we decided to expand this spring. We acquired some straight runs (4 more buffs, 4 dark brown speckled sussex, and an appenzeller spitzhauben) still trying to figure out sexes. Thinking we have a bunch of roos. Then I decided I needed more girls, so I ordered 8 pullets due early April. In the interim, we picked up a cherry egger, cuckoo Marian and an americauna. And a duckling. And then an additional cherry egger, 2 production reds, another BO and 2 black australorps yesterday. I think I need a support group (and another duckling or two)
Thanks for any helpful input!
Hi All,
I've got a small backyard flock of mixed breeds, but just recently purchased hatching eggs from lonnyandrinda. I can't wait to get them in the incubator! Five Jubilee Orpington (from another breeder) are still on their way via USPS, so I have to wait another day. AARGH. I've also got WAY too many chicks in the brooder right now. I apparently can't say no.
I just wanted to say hello and see how they BYC posting thing works!
Rhonda
Hi all,
Just got 15 chicks delivered from MyPetChicken, 5 EE, 5 Buff Orps, and 5 Golden Buff pullets. Got em in the brooder, they got here fast! Shipped yesterday, and picked up from the OKC Mail distribution center about 2 hours ago. They are all eating, drinking and cheeping, so far so good. I"ve been lurking since I ordered my chicks about 3 weeks ago, and will go pick up my tractor and run in a couple of weeks. Will update as more happens. Happy chickening!
I am pretty sure that is a dark brahma... I have raised them and that is what they look like when they start out. Probably a male...
I have a toulouse/pilgrim cross and he will sometimes let me hold him like that...
Welcome back Rebecca! I may be interested in the poults. And I will be there as well.I noticed several of my hens disappeared, but my peacock ratted them out and I found three hens sitting on two nest of over 30 eggs. I am going to let them hatch the eggs. If anyone is interested in Bourbon Red turkey poults they should be done cooking in about three weeks.....
I promise not to wear bells but I will be there! Well I may wear bells....![]()
