The first beak is the big on on the top. The second beak is the little white spot at the bottom.

i can't tell from the pic was it a bigger egg than normal or a normal sized egg?

OK, I am an idiot....

Only one chick. I panicked when I could not find the second beak - it had retreated into the muck of egg white... Hatched the chick out. Only one. Well, at least the 'second' one didn't drown. Lots of white though yuck.
Had another egg zip - a paint silkie-, then get stuck at the bottom and drown there. Had a third egg that pipped ON the bottom. So, so far, one healthy black (I think) silkie. And this one, the 'twin', who is a big marans mix.Seems to be doing ok, but has a little of what might be hernia at the naval -- but no blood or open looking stuff, so maybe it is just the umbilicle not fully shriveled. I did a better job of assisting this time - had the small plastic tray with moist paper towel on top of a heating pad - so it doesn't cool.

I swear I was hearing little peeps coming from that toe!!!!

larger, but not super big. I have some red sex links that lay huge double yolkers. I do not want twins, so I will not try to hatch the big ones. As it is, not twins. I feel stupid but relieved too!

been busy getting things ready for the cold, should NOT have planted anything- no big issue, but i sure hate to lose the roses and butterfly plant- so if i just cover the will they be ok? they have barely been in the ground 2 weeks

Afton will also start on Friday, April 18th (3 days) this month for Good Friday and the Easter holidays swap. Y'all are more than welcome to stop by and say howdy. I plan to be there at the bottom of the hill, directly straight down from the gate, with "LOTS" of baby chicks. So far just out of the incubator, 80 standard (some NN too) and about 50 assorted bantys, and 20 cochin/frizzle bantams. Also some older chicks and laying hens.
