***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had an interesting day at volunteer, today! We were showing at a location where there weren't many food options nearby, which meant crossing three highways in order to get to the Quicktrip. I love walking the streets, it's fascinating, to me. (Don't mind my serious issues!

) Anyways, I pressed the button and waited for the "walk" signal. As soon as I stepped off the curb, someone ran a red light, came flying around the corner, cutting it real close, and nearly rammed me. Needless to say, I had quite the fright. The guy I was walking with actually grabbed my backpack and yanked me back. We both started laughing.

I was protected by The Lord.

Yes indeed , you were protected. I hope your laughing was from hysteria. I laugh sometimes when it's not exactly the time to do it.

It's been one of those days for me. I want to vent but am too tired now. I've been in a little over a half hour. Not all work. I love to lay down with the kids after I put fresh bedding in and they seem to tame down and enjoy it too. I feel like a bad chicken mama today. I'm missing one juvenile and don't know which one. I'll have to take the time and look at their bands tom. I thought I knew them all. One of the C?W's i got from NanaKat is the biggest pet. They all are, but he never leaves me when I'm out. I need to take pictures. His name is Micah and he's a birchen(did I say that right?) I hope he grows up to be a kind rooster.; Glad to see u on. I think we all missed u. I know I did.

@NanaKat That's a perfect name for her thanks. I just really couldn't think and I haven't had a Molly yet.

You should have seen my after a wild fall on my bike. Hit a rough spot in the road, went flying, and took all weight on my right wrist. My head was about 2 inches from smashing into the street and I had no helmet. I was laughing. Of course my injuries had the last laugh--with my wrist, I couldn't draw for a week--and for me, that is pure, mental torment!

You can pm me if you need to!

Loriemarler. I'm so stealing your vent idea! Great way to vent without letting sparrows in to the cage.

Shelbydog...can you incubate the extra duck eggs? Or will the hen on the Scovy eggs take more?
Chickens that raise baby ducks do a great job...just panic a little when the babies dive into water the first time. Then they get used to it. Roger said when they were little boys they always liked to collect wild duck eggs to put under a broody hen.

We just got a nice shower. First clap of thunder sent Red to hide under the pillows on our bed...you can't see him at all! But he is there because the bed is shaking. He will fight a coyote but is afraid of thunder. An earthquake will send him for cover too.

Broodies here include four Cochin, three Wyandotte and an OEGB Bantam. Two more Wyandotte are thinking about it. The two girls with chicks are laying good again.

We have a red cow in the pasture that has been ready to calve....hope she waits until this rain passes. Her bag is huge! She raises a great calf each year.
The one in the lot has looked ready for several days and there is no telling on her because she finishes dropping her milk just after calving. She looks ready by all other signs. Her first calf last year died shortly after birth so we are treating her like a first timer this year. She is standing around with her tail sideways so she might be today.

Moved the last three chicks to the brooder and sterilized the hatcher for the next set of eggs. They are moving about like frisky puffballs. I'll move the eggs in on Tuesday for a May 2 hatch.

Nanakat, I have a scovy hen sitting on a nest right now. No clue how many eggs. I'm going to have ducklings coming out my ears here soon so no worries on trying to hatch every egg.
I'll let the call duck give it a shot if she thinks she can do it.

Thanks to Kyzmette I'll be getting some appleyards in a couple of weeks. And bowling pins...errr....exhibition white runner ducks in about 3 weeks.

Newbie here. Not just new to the site, but new to raising fowl, AND new to Oklahoma. Another friend refers to me as an "Oklahoma Improved Californian".

Anyway, we are in Sequoyah County, in the country, near the Tenkiller Golf course. We just got our first ever chickens, this week (16 chicks of various breeds). Lost an Australorp chick this morning, but the other 15 are doing well, as are the two bronze broadbreasted turkeys, we got.
I need to build a bigger brooder, for these little folks, in the next few days, and I am getting started on rebuilding a collapsed coop (tree fell on it). But, for now, our one big coop should be good for our flock, for the time being.

and Oklahoma. My work partner is a transplanted Califonian, I am always telling him, "it's okay I just tell them (the patients) you are from Califonia and we both (me and the pts) say, oh that explains it! lol lol lol

I have 3 of the 7 rows completed for my newest fusion quilt

Both sides are from byc swaps, the blue and yellow fabric stars and the center flower crocheted squares. The flower side has two special squares, an awareness ribbon in my MIL ca colors, and a broken heart in the alzhiemers colors for my gma.
