***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Goodness, from far away, I thought that it was an exotic yellow and black python or something. Still have predators on the brain from Ksanes horrible news.

The fox was beautiful - what odd coloring. Sad, but it was an ours or them kind of thing. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
i agree it was beautiful i have never seen a red fox or a gray one (i looked them up, that is what they are called when they have that coloration lol) for that matter but it is a sad truth if it is killing your animals you have to protect them.

Gosh that is so true- when it rains it pours! Discovered last night I fed a predator a $50 chicken dinner, a very good quality black copper marans rooster out of dark egg lines I had just bought last weekend. He was in the duck pen with some other roosters for quarantine and I guess got chased out of the one small gap in the netting on top. Yeesh.
sorry you have had so may losses lately

Sorry for all the losses everyone is having lately. Preditors are so much more active in the spring when feeding young families. And in those fire areas they have lost much of their natural food source.

@hotcurltr the ferment doesn't go bad I have had the same ferment going for over 2 years (I think close to 3 now) each "batch" lasts anywhere from 2-4 weeks, before adding fresh food and water to the mix. Mine is outside all year long, freezes in the winter gets hot in the summer, but never has "gone bad"

I had several dogs running around on my place last night. After dealing with a massacre last year that cost me 17 keets, 26 chicks, a rooster, a goat, and my 17 year old cat it scares me to death to have dogs roaming around here. After dealing with all that my pens are like Fort Knox, but it still makes me a nervous wreck! I learned that two determined pit bulls can tear their way through just about anything! I sure didn't get any sleep last night, and I bet I don't sleep much better tonight or anytime soon :/

Medicated feed and mareks vaccine have nothing to do with each other.

Medicated feed is to help prevent cocci infection. They can still get cocci though. It's a bacteria that is pretty much everywhere. People will put sod from their property in the brooder box to help the chicks develop immunity to the cocci strain(s) on their property.

Mareks is a herpes virus.

Ok, thanks so much for the response. I got 12 beautiful BLRW chicks from a breeder out of Idaho....
