***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I just finished the chicken part of a block I designed from scratch (

get it???) This will have borders just haven't decided the details on the borders.

LOVE IT!!!!!

Thanks everyone, I am making it and the other chicken blocks I posted for a swap here on byc. Nana, I love the green border idea. It was challenging trying to figure out how to draw it so it looked like a chicken, but still could be sewn by paper piecing techniques.

I haven't been able to find liquid Sulmet around here for a while. I have been using a powder form.
I had a bunch of chicks catch Cocci. right as I was moving them out to the grow-out pen. They spent the night in the coop and when I opened it in the morning there was bloody stool everywhere. They hadn't had water since the night before so they drank the treated water right down. I only lost 3 out of 24.

Coral, congrats!! You must be so proud of him!!!
And.......that'd be why I don't even bother with Corid. Corid doesn't cover near as many strains as Sulmet. I just don't trust it.
Robin, is he rumpless? I can't tell. He's a beautiful color.
Are these 2 older Silkie boys I got from you Lavender? They're wonderful boys :)

Kim, that Porcelain pair is gorgeous!!! i've got Silkies coming out my ears, otherwise I'd be calling dibs on them.
Where can you purchase the liquid Sulmet at? Thanks

My local feed store ordered it- Farmers Co-op in Coweta.

@Kyzmette I think Dusti hit the nail on the head. I have been having the same problem here- Cocci symptoms in the brooder but Corrid is doing very little I just switched to Sulmet 2 days ago I've lost two more but the rest are looking better. My discovery was by accident (I was out of Corrid and the Sulmet I asked about happened to come in when I went in for more) but I think that's why it is working!

ETA: didn't find my camera charger yet but snapped a pic with my phone! Momma and 19 babies!

Thanks so much, will order some to have on hand.

Hey, so anyone in my area (Normanish) want this beautiful Roo?
He's part of the pair from Bardies (her picture)
and since I can't keep him I'm wanting to find him a home. I will pick them up Saturday morning (tentatively) and can drop him off to someone close to Newcastle or Norman. Let me know, he's free if you promise to love him. He would make beautiful babies!

LOL! I wormed them with Safeguard before winter. It may be time to repeat that, all things considered. When I started adding the new birds from the auction I went a little overboard on my biosecurity (is there such a thing as "overboard" when it comes to biosecurity???), especially considering that prior to going to these auctions my birds were 100% natural and chemical free. Today is my last day with the Sulmet. When I get home tonight I'm going to start them on a regimen of garlic, ACV and yogurt to repair the damage I've done to their digestive tracts with all the antibiotics. It occurred to me that with all the medical garbage I've been giving them that some of the damage could be due to a lack of good bacteria. Oh, and @greenbeetle Dusti picked some up in Claremore, I believe. I'll ask her to post where she got it. Dusti is Shelbydog, by the way, in case anybody hasn't met her yet. I figure everybody knows Dusti, because Dusti buys everybody's chickens! :p

Mine was a little backwards from that. My babies didn't get cocci until they got outside, which really threw me for a loop. I kept thinking they had some weird, exotic disease, and it never occurred to me that the older birds might have had it. So I kept treating the babies and they were getting worse and worse and I was just feeling HELPLESS! It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the chicks being hatched nowadays were carrying the Corid-resistant bacteria more frequently, since Corid is given at the drop of a hat and half the nation's chicken people use medicated chick feed.
