***OKIES in the BYC III ***

last year i had alt of broodies- and once one got the idea the rest followed along
Also they say of all the chicken breeds that Silkies are the broodiest breed, I know Cochin and Old English Game Hens are very broody. I have 4 Silkie hens laying but not one of them have shown any sign of going broody, go figure..lol.

I hang vanilla scented little tree air fresheners on my coop. Very few flies!!

Good morning!
We got another inch of rain thru the night...total of 2.25 for the past three days. The grass looks clean and green. The ground is soaked, but the ponds have not gotten runoff yet. So we are praying for pond water now.

So far there are five more pips and another chick out....so a total of 12 hatched. I had placed three hatch dates together in one incubator and some of those pipped are due on the 8th and one is a 10th due date!
Two broody hens will be getting some chicks in the brooder room cages. There is another hen acting broody who will get the next batch of eggs. Already have five on eggs, 11 with chicks and two possible broody hens...sure taking a hit with the egg laying, but the healthiest chicks are always those raised by hens.

The cows have been holding out on calving.... :fl ...until after the rains. We have some spring calves who are beginning to bag.

Does anyone know someone in Central Oklahoma that raise butcher lambs? I would like to put meat in the freezer.

My Showgirl died today. She had been doing better but........ She was always small, I wonder if she was a weak hatch? She was such a sweetheart. I will miss her a lot. I do have her brother and eggs under my Blue girl, Ezmeralda, so I hope I get more like her.
awww I'm so sorry for your loss
