***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi, my name is Kelly and I have a chicken addiction.

And I would have taken those brahmas and rocks in a heartbeat if Mitzi hadn't been lurking like a pirahna! As if anybody here could say the words "I have a female chicken I don't want" and NOT get a response. Those words in this group is like walking out amidst the flock with the treat bucket... if you're not careful we'll snap a finger off!

I'm wishing I had a bunch more TO sell, but alas just a slight over crowding problem and had NO idea that the way to wake everyone up was to say "Female chickens for sale" LOL --- I will treat you all like I do a horse when feeding treats and keep the fingers very protected next time I have some to sell!!

Did I mention I'm already working on hubby about another run added onto the existing run? This would allow for MORE chickens!!
We have a larger, much older carport (it does not match in color and like I care), and actually have HIM bringing ideas back to me on how we can 'snub' it beside the other one and build ANOTHER covered run ---

Well, the crowing has started (maybe???) my chicks are only 7 and 9 weeks old, but today someone was screechy squawking as soon as I fed them (but only when i wasn't looking at them, can't figure out which bugger it is!)
I don't think it woke my husband up, but I'm just praying the dogs don't start barking at it. That will wake up hubs.

Also, I love that the minute someone said "extra hens" it was like the collective Okie thread immediately snapped to attention.

I have some young males, definitely roo's, about 9 weeks old now and none are making sounds, so I'm jealous!
To think I almost didn't post because I figured everyone here owns chickens so why would they want more! lol

Pffffttt! Some of us have to be quick on the trigger or the DORKINGS and BLUE AMERAUCANA hens will get snatched up before we can get our greedy hands on them

Ya gotta be up at midnight to get the good deals on the BYC board

Explain the fascination with these breeds please so that I too may feel the need for greed

Now I didn't plan on having a midnight chicken buying frenzy. I was just up late and couldn't sleep and thought I'd play catch-up since we were gone all weekend! Boy am I glad I did! Ksane and Sub have saved my bacon AND I'm gaining an EE roo to boot! Now I see how this evil place works and I'm hooked! lol

The Guy rose auctions is every sat in stillwater/perkens they sell chickens there
My freind has a litght brahma roo she brought it to poops but be got there kind of late and no one was intrested in him.
Is this the one on 177 on the East side of the road? IF so, awesome! Is your friend still interested in selling him? Can you get a pic of him??

Speaking of... :D Everybody wanted her here, too. I relaxed my biosecurity for once for the poor girl and all the roos went ape over her. I was going to put her in a pen with a single roo that I saved from freezer camp. I set her down inside the pen and he suddenly went NUTS! He'd never had a GIRL before! He was chasing her around, she was squawk/screaming, I was frantic and about to go over the fence after her. She tore around the corner of the coop to the area where I was standing, which had a dropdown gate, leaving a 2.5' border of fence protecting the birds that never comes down, she looked up at me, her eyes the size of dinner plates, the look on her face shouting "OMG GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!" then she LAUNCHED herself off the ground and straight up into my arms, where she buried her head in the crook of my elbow. When I looked back on it later, it was hilarious, but for that single moment, if you could have seen the look on that pullet's face, you would have fallen all over yourself to get her out of that pen. Poor girl. I put her back in isolation for a few more days, then tucked her inside the coop the night before last. The boys have been chasing her all over the place, but Orlando finally caught her. He's been MUCH better with his girls. Once he took her into his flock, things settled down.

One of my Bantam Cochin is trying to crow at only 4 weeks old! I nearly fell over when I saw it.

If no one responds before this evening I'll have my dh look. He's a permaculture landscaper. This to him is like gender guessing chickens for me! Yep, we're dorks.

HA! Wrong smiley!

I love trying to use this site on my phone.

When you find out, let me know - I've got those weeds too! If I recall right though, the thorny vine might be kudzu? I do know that cattle eat it - but they are pretty different than bunnies.

I am trying to ID some weeds, bushes, vines, and trees to see what I have for the new rabbits for wild forage. Anyone know what these are.

Weed one, you can see the sap is milky, this stuff is everywhere.

Weed 2 This weed also has milky sap, long tap root

Weed 3, this one gets huge, clear sap I believe they call it chick weed. Amish make a salve out of it.

Weed 4, is this plantain that has gone to seed?

Weed 5, airy foliage and flowers Almost like babies breath but not woody.

tree 1 This one is a tree, they pop up everywhere Texas Boxwood.

Tree 2, or maybe big bush hard to tell, is it elderberry? It kinda reminds me of my Gma's elderberry, when it was blooming very fragrent

Evil vine 1, hate this crap, big hateful thorns grows like crazy, leaves are a bit thicker then normal. Green Briar. Non poisonous but a real pain. Only removal method is digging it up. Birds spread the seeds.

Weed 6, everywhere

They will be eternally grateful for the ID's
ID'd some but they're all indigenous to OK. We've all got them and don't see wild bunnies dropping over because of them.

Okay, okies...question about management.
15 week old cockerel already mating and fertilizing pullets (17 weeks old). Would it be okay to send him somewhere that there are no laying pullets/hens, or do you think if he had a 15 week old pullet with him that he wouldn't harass/bother the younger ones who are 8 weeks now? It will be after quarantine, not sure how many weeks the person is planning.
