***OKIES in the BYC III ***

no smell that I noticed. No signs of illness. One of my birds was ill 20 days ago but fine now. She hasnt laid since we got her so thats why I thought maybe this is her egg? From being sick now better finally laying. Although shes an australorp and suppose to lay brown. This egg is more olive. My kids said she was acting weird today squawking and prancing after being in thr coop for a little while. I also have 2 juvenile auracauna/black maran mixes who are suppose to lay dark olive but non thus far. They are maybe 4mos 5mos old?
I would separate her from the flock if she's acting off, even if it's not her egg.

You can always put food coloring on the vents of the chickens you suspect of laying (color coded eggs)

Heres another pic. L-R is my easter egger Mo-Mo mint green. Middle is the weird egg lol. Right is my other Australorp Vadas brown egg.

She was acting like my others after they lay. Thats why we thought this could be her egg. I will try the food coloring idea. She wasnt acting any different than my other birds. Just more active than she normally is.

We only intended to get 6 chicks because we are so new at this. But we had to order a minimum of 15. So we have 14 thriving chickens! Yikes! Who know what the future holds, though!

If it was a trick of the lighting it could be meat spots, but meat spots typically aren't black. Usually if there's a bacterial infection it will grow in the yolk. The chickens can lay tainted eggs without showing any sickness. I'm no expert, not even close, but if those spots are black it could be worth looking into. Call the vet's office at the Dept of Ag and ask him about them.

Ok here is the close up of the saddle feathers @Poco Pollo .
I can't see any pointed feathers. Like Kass said, though, it's still early. Your chick's face looks feminine to me, as do the legs. I have some that are obviously boys, and they have red combs and little wattles starting to grow, and their legs are much thicker than your chick's legs.

I totally agree on the legs, they look all girl, I was weighing between the girly legs and the bigger comb mound that to me says boy.

Thanks for the help and advice. I am going to monitor all birds closely today and if I get another olive colored egg I will break it open to see whats inside. If more black then I will contact the breeder and see what he says. Thank u all
