I personally would see if it happens again, or if she has any other s/sx of distress, illness, or issue.  A chicken getting dark red "blood clot" looking things in the egg is normal at the beginning of laying or at the end of laying.  Did the egg smell off at all?

no smell that I noticed. No signs of illness. One of my birds was ill 20 days ago but fine now. She hasnt laid since we got her so thats why I thought maybe this is her egg? From being sick now better finally laying. Although shes an australorp and suppose to lay brown. This egg is more olive. My kids said she was acting weird today squawking and prancing after being in thr coop for a little while. I also have 2 juvenile auracauna/black maran mixes who are suppose to lay dark olive but non thus far. They are maybe 4mos 5mos old?

I agree that it may be from an olive egger rather than the Australorp. When a hen lays after a break for illness or molting, she can lay an egg with a thicker yolk, a smaller egg, an egg with blood/meat spots or an egg with no yolk ...even a leather/soft shelled egg. The nice hard shell means she has enough calcium in her diet.
And I agree with Kass....watch for the next egg and check it. As Subhannalah suggested, separating her or food coloring will help identify whose egg you are actually getting.

Tylan50 would help with the infection is she actually has one. If you don't like giving shots, you could give Amoxicillin 250mg pill for two days (FishMox at Walmart or Lincoln County Feed).

I've lost two of my 6 year old hens this week. Both were resting in the sun on separate days...just peacefully crossed over the Rainbow bridge. Both were very healthy girls, just retired old ladies. They had been yard buddies from the very beginning, so it is fitting they should go together.

The garden is beautiful after our short rain last night. The young chicks who have discovered they can squeeze under the chain link fence were out this morning chasing a few grasshoppers between the beds of veggies. Even discovered a few in the squash plants. So fun to watch them act like adults even when they are only 10 weeks old.

So goes the circle of life on the farm.

Nankat, so sorry for your loss!

Thanks to all who replied about mixing flocks. I'm on my phone and it's not 'quote' friendly!

I did add some new things to the run and fixed a corner where smaller birds can duck and hide, but the older ones are too big to follow! As of this morning they are doing better! 2-3 more days and I'll hope they've worked it out. Just in time to introduce the new roo.

Jack is selling his Black Copper Marans, (aprox. 6 hen and 2 roosters) and his Black-tailed Buff Marans, (Aprox. 9 hens and 2 roosters). The hens are laying very well and lay dark eggs.

If you are interested - P.M. me with and offer

NanaK sorry about your girls,
